Swim
Comments: Wetsuit legal and down current made for a fast swim. WOW...a 26 min swim? I'll take that every time! Coming out of the water I was feeling good, especially when I saw my watch. What would you do differently?: Sight better, the sun was right in my eyes. Also find faster feet to draft off of. I found some for half the swim, but the person started slowing down so I had to pass them. Swim was the highlight of my day! Transition 1
Comments: I wanted 5 min transition max. Strippers were great. I took the time to get some sunblock put on as well. It was worth it in the end because I didn't get sunburned. What would you do differently?: Move a little faster. I stopped for pictures that my family wanted to take at transition LOL. Skip that? That would save time but if you don't document it then it didn't happen right? And the pics turned out great! Bike
Comments: Great bike ride. It was a lot of fun. I could have easily gone faster and mashed but I remembered to keep HR down, spin legs last few miles and take my time. I stopped to go to the restroom at station 3. Urinating on myself, shoes and bike is not an option. If I was pro then maybe but I'm not that desperate for a few minutes. Also my Garmin stopped in the middle of race. I had to stop at station 2 to fix that. What would you do differently?: Train more. I'll get faster with time. I wanted a 3hr bike ride and I almost made it. HR stayed below 160 throughout whole ride. Transition 2
Comments: Under 5min allotted time What would you do differently?: Go faster? The run out chute was pretty long. Run
Comments: I was hoping for a sub 2hr half, but that didn't happen. Def need to work in running after the bike. My HR was down but I couldn't get my body to move faster. I knew if I paced properly I would make a sub-6 total time. I walked all aid stations to make sure I hydrated properly. What would you do differently?: Not walk aid stations. Go faster? Train harder. Post race
Warm down: Stretched out. Relaxed in the participants area before grabbing some pizza and a coke. What limited your ability to perform faster: Met my goal for a sub-6hr race. With more races, experience and time I will be able to bike & run faster. I definitely can improve on pacing & nutrition though out the race. Event comments: Awesome race! I can't believe its over already. I had a lot of fun and met my goal. I hope to stay in the host hotel next year. I'll be back next year! Anything is possible! Last updated: 2013-05-30 12:00 AM

Woke up at 0330. I slept at 2130 so I had plenty of sleep. I had some coffee and peanut butter on some bread. Grabbed my race gear and drove down to the transition. I got there around 0500 to beat the morning crowd. Set up my gear and I was out of there. I drove my family to Einstein's bagels to get breakfast while I took another nap in the car. My wave didn't start until 0848 so I knew I was in for a long morning.
Prior to the swim I stretched, ate a Vanilla Power Bar Gel. I was in wave 20 which started about an hour and 18 minutes after the pros. The sun was out, weather was good. I knew I was going to have a good day. Sub-6hr was the goal.
