![]() Swim
Comments: My FIRST OWS!! I was nervous, anxious and worried, but as soon as I rounded the first buoy, I calmed down for a bit. But as I swam, I felt like I wasnt getting anywhere! WTF!! I started to get anxious again, but then I touched bottom. I took a few steps, regained my composer, and started my stroke again. I think the safety net of the shallow water helped me get past my fear and allowed me to kick the rest of the swims ass. My sighting was spot on and I actually passed a few people. I was really surprised with how well that was going because in the pool, I feel like Im always drifting toward the pool lines. What would you do differently?: Train harder. My first OWS is now behind me, so now I just need to build endurance. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: My transitions suck. I took extra time to apply Body Glide to my feet before I put on socks. I also lathered up my seat area with some Slick skin. Since the bike course was not closed off, I also put on the brightest Orange shirt I had then my helmet. I had my dark sunglasses laid on the bike, but due to the clouds, I decided to switch to my clear ones. No biggie, but they were buried in my bag, which took me an eternity to find! I got pissed for a bit, but then I finally ran out of T with my bike and calmed back down. What would you do differently?: Less time fuggin around!! Practice, practice and more practice. I definitely wasted valuable time in my Ts ![]() Bike
Comments: Coming out of T1, there is a nice, gradual uphill climb. Nothing too bad, but I cranked up my cadence over 100 to get my muscles working. I need work here. The hills were kicking my butt and I got passed by other riders. On the flats, I could maintain 20mph, but ANY little inclination and my pace would fall off. I found myself looking forward to any downhill runs, but was smacked back to reality with the hills on the opposing side of those hills. There was definitely a Love/Hate thing going on. What would you do differently?: Train more. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!! I have to quit messing around!! ![]() Run
Comments: Coming off the bike, I made it about 100m then my calves began to cramp up. I stopped running and stretched which helped so I walked for a bit. I started running again and the cramping stopped, but I was just wiped out. I would look for points on the course and run to that point, then walk some. Run to another point, and walk some more. I really didnt feel good about my run till the last mile. I guess knowing that I was in the last mile was a good motivator for me to finish. I kept telling myself, the further you run, the sooner you get done! As I rounded the last turn to the Finish Line, I heard my wife and two girls cheering me on. I thought they already had left, so hearing them was a very cool morale booster! I crossed the finish line with a smile and was thankful it was over. What would you do differently?: There is no excuse, I need to train harder. ![]() Post race

Drove up the 45 minute commute, signed in and set up transition.
Nothing. I walked into the shallow water and figured it wasnt as cold as I thought. So that calmed some fears I had about the swim.
