Swim
Comments: First time doing an ocean swim and the announcement about swimming against the current really got in my head. I had to deal with the waves and sighting somewhere I had never swam before and then had to deal with that. What would you do differently?: Next time I'll know earlier that the waves push you in as well as the current so I'll get my sighting in line sooner. I'll also use something other than the bouys since half the time, they were hidden behind the waves. Transition 1
Comments: First time in a race with real bike shoes. I had practiced the week before and was glad I did. It went well, but with room for improvement. What would you do differently?: Work on flying starts Bike
Comments: Good ride. I really enjoyed being able to just pedal without much more to worry about. Finished the entire bottle of water on the course so that was good. What would you do differently?: Get in and out of shoes a little cleaner Transition 2
Comments: Everything was great except I left without my race number and had to turn around 30 seconds in and get it. What would you do differently?: Remember my race number, get shoes on a little cleaner Run
Comments: Ran a great race, just a little longer than I had to. What would you do differently?: Race number, maybe turn it on a little earlier near the finish. I didn't have anyone in front or behind when I came in so it was hard to find that extra gear. Post race
Warm down: Walk around, drink water, more water, more water, more walking. Then to the beach for the rest of the day and coolers full of beer. What limited your ability to perform faster: My own mistakes. I should have eaten up this flat course and did well, considering. Event comments: I would have rated this a 4 but the swim against the current really bothers me. People around me said the same thing happened the year before but I do not know that for sure. I don't understand how the course could not have been changed to adjust for the current. I know the pier is there but I think the competitors, especially the slower swimmers, would have rather had a longer run back to transition than the whole swim against the current. The current only goes in two directions. Having a plan B when there are only two options makes too much sense in my mind. Last updated: 2013-06-03 12:00 AM
