Tri Minnesota Triathlon Racing Series
70F / 21C
Overcast
Total Time = 1h 19m 19s
Overall Rank = 74/449
Age Group = M 50 - 54
Age Group Rank = 6/41
Pre-race routine:

Normal routine: 2 Eggo waffles with butter and syrup, a banana, coffee, water and a small gatorade.

Got to event at about 6:00. Got the same tran spot as previous 2 years, got checked in and setup area. Walked around with my son Jason to check out all the bike p*rn, say hit to people we knew (hi Jerry!) and got oriented.
Event warmup:

Walked/jogged/ran about a mile with Jason and then stretched. Swam about 50 yards and bobbed in the water to get comfortable with cool water temp.
Swim
  • 12m 54s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 28s / 100 yards
Comments:

Followed my plan on going out hard to get in front of the big wave of 60 or so swimmers. Sigthing was excellent and swam nice and steady. No one to draft off of really until right at the end.

Goal was 1:30 per 100 yards pace and hit 1:28, so good swim.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 1
  • 01m 40s
Comments:

Tongue on right shoe got wedged way in and down, so actually had to stop to fix it - sucked! Cost 30 seconds at least.
What would you do differently?:

Be more patient getting shoe on instead of trying to jam my foot in! Time actually went against my bike time. T1 time was actually excellent and only 1 second slower than last year.
Bike
  • 40m 44s
  • 14.5 miles
  • 21.39 mile/hr
Comments:

Goal was 22 mph and I averaged 21.4 with my stupid shoe stop, so not bad. I felt I rode strong and only got passed by 2 people the whole ride.
What would you do differently?:

Not stop :-). Otherwise, all went well.
Transition 2
  • 00m 59s
Comments:

Good tran for me. A little slower than last year, probably because I walked part of it to open a watter bottle to pour down my back and take a sip.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing,
Run
  • 23m 4s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

Decent run considering my calf and knee issues the past 6 weeks or so which limited my running distance and speedwork. Goal was 8:00 min per mile pace (stretch of 7:30) and I averaged 7:42. I finished strong which felt good. Still, over a minute slower than last year.
What would you do differently?:

Not have leg issues so I could keep up my distance and get in some speed work.
Post race
Warm down:

Met Jason at the finish and grabbed some water and walked around to cool down. Got some snacks and my finish time slip and said hi to some friends from my health club. Had to get going as Jason worked.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

T1 mistake and leg issues hampering run training.

Event comments:

Love this local race!
