Total Time = 1h 02m 35s
Overall Rank = 21/325
Age Group = M30-34
Age Group Rank = 2/13
Pre-race routine:

Up around 430, out of the door at 5, with a bagel with jelly and banana. Arrive at parking at 515.
Event warmup:

Race day PPU did not open until 6, so I did about 15 minutes of bike and 15 minutes of run.
Swim
  • 05m 34s
  • 300 meters
  • 01m 52s / 100 meters
Comments:

A very good swim for me. I think this was the first time I broke 6 minutes in this pool. I always struggle to control my swim breathing on race day and today had no problems. Made two passes.
What would you do differently?:

Work on ducking the lane lines in practice more. I should push off, then swim under, as opposed to stop, duck, surface, push off.
Transition 1
  • 01m 32s
Comments:

I had a surprisingly fast run out of the pool, and went back to what I know best: running in the shoes and then flying mount.
What would you do differently?:

Not much, just run faster. Maybe powder the shoes so they go on easier.
Bike
  • 32m 14s
  • 12 miles
  • 22.13 mile/hr
Comments:

This was an excellent split for me. PR on this course. First time on the P3.
Transition 2
  • 00m 45s
Comments:

Dismount was flawlessly smooth, though I lost an insole. Missed my rack - went to the wrong side first - so that added about 8 seconds.
What would you do differently?:

Tie a balloon on the rack or something. Had a much harder time finding it than usual.
Run
  • 22m 29s
  • 5 kms
  • 04m 28s  min/km
Comments:

Excellent run for me. This split is actually an open 5K PR for me, but 30 seconds. I'm super excited about this.
What would you do differently?:

I still had some left in the tank... I should have turned the final kick on sooner.
Post race
Warm down:

Mill around, drink some water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Silly messups.

Event comments:

This was my fifth time racing this course in three years, including twice as the RTC Sprint. I like it as a metric to gauge my improvement.
I ended up with a 2nd in my AG, missing 1st by only 13 seconds. 3rd was only 19 seconds behind me, so it was very tight. I actually combined the three splits faster than the 1st place finisher, only to give it back in transition.
I am already looking forward to next year.
This finish qualified me for USAT AG Nationals in Milwaukee. I'm going!
