Swim
Comments: stayed extremely tight around buoys and kept next buoy in sight. rough start, started in the middle of the wave and couldn't navigate around people until a few hundred feet in. wave start was bad - every female under 35, aquabike racers, and relay leg start. had two men from the relay swim over me and i was boxed out by large people twice in the beginning.3 What would you do differently?: kick people out of my way and swim over them. Transition 1
Comments: still working on transitions. I was able to eat a bonk breaker, pull my wetsuit off, and get my sunglasses on all at once. What would you do differently?: helmet on needs work, mounting needs work. Bike
Comments: Bonk breaker in T1. One stinger at mile 20, one at mile 40. Almost 2 full bottles, each had gatorade and 2 1/2 scoops carbo pro. 2 full bottles of water. Nutrition was great. Bike fitness was well below what I wanted it to be for this race. Max speed was 39 mph bike shoes are too tight (i needed new ones prior but never got them) and the sides of both feet took a beating. it affected my run later (see below) What would you do differently?: lose the bike gloves and overall needed better bike miles during training. Transition 2
Comments: Not comfortable dismounting while bike is moving yet - it's almost fully stopped before I am okay dismounting. Had one GU in transition. Dumped water on myself bc of how hot I was, so it took extra time. What would you do differently?: Lose the bike gloves - take too much time to get off. Need to remember the only major thing I need to do is change my shoes and take off my helmet, then I need to get going. Run
Comments: alternated gatorade and water at the stops. had one gu at mile 5 and one at mile 9. it took the first 3 miles to shake my bike legs (too long). the sides of both feet were in a decent amount of pain from being crushed in my too small bike shoes, which affected me for the entire run leg (and 2 days after). the run was a jog/walk for pretty much the entire way minus the middle couple miles when i was able to grind out a decent pace for a while. What would you do differently?: need to work on longer bike-run bricks Post race
Warm down: nachos. What limited your ability to perform faster: myself and my lack of training due to a ridiculously demanding work/grad school schedule this past spring. Event comments: Loved the race. Had I been physically prepared 100% instead of 65%, this would have gone a lot better for me. however, that's not the race's fault! The race itself was great - organized and lots of support from volunteers, cops, and spectators. The course was absolutely beautiful (albeit hilly). Last updated: 2013-06-08 12:00 AM
