Pre-race routine:

Up at 3:30 to get ready for the drive out to the burbs. Ate a paleo blueberry mug muffin and had a few sips of water and iced coffee. Debated between taking new tri top out for a test run or sticking with older top- stuck with the older top. Stopped at Dunkin Donuts in Naperville for a very small coffee and a bagel, as I realized the mug muffin wasn't going to hold me over (my wave started at 8:20 and I didn't bring any food for the course).
Event warmup:

Nada.
Swim
  • 23m 39s
  • 750 meters
  • 03m 09s / 100 meters
Comments:

Could have started further up in the pack to get some space at the beginning. Couldn't even swim for the first hundred feet due to people just sort of floundering about. Fought my way past some breaststrokers and got along better after that.
What would you do differently?:

Trained. This was the first 750 m I'd swam since... March. Oops! Definitely could have been faster, and I felt really comfortable the whole time. I wanted to just do the whole thing again when I got out of the water.
Transition 1
  • 07m 18s
Comments:

I used the potty, hence the long T1.
What would you do differently?:

Not have coffee. I know this but I did it anyway.
Bike
  • 58m 6s
  • 14.2 miles
  • 14.66 mile/hr
Comments:

Got stuck behind some newbies a few times, but on the second loop the course had really cleared out so I was able to dig in a little.
What would you do differently?:

My shorts started "biting" me a bit during the last few miles. Not stopping at the bathroom would have solved this.
Transition 2
  • 03m 16s
Run
  • 40m 45s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 13m 09s  min/mile
Comments:

Started off with a gas bubble from chugging Gatorade too quickly. Walked a lot in the beginning, then settled into a good run/walk pattern for the rest of the race. Walked a little long than I should have (chatting with friends) in the middle. Started getting blisters (that's a first) about halfway through. I blame the sand/wet socks.
What would you do differently?:

Run didn't FEEL awesome but it was on pace with what I've been doing.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training.

Event comments:

Consistently a good environment for a relaxed, easy, no-surprises race. The only downside is that while it attracts new people (which is fantastic) there is a lot more blocking on the bike course.
