Swim
Comments: In first wave- was just ankle deep & no goggles on yet when called the start- first dip in & goggles filled with water..breast stroked for a bit to get going - that hurt, freestyled a bit- that hurt in a different spot & couldn't see-water sloshing & irritating my eyes- flipped over & emptied goggles- breast, side- basically couldn't get anything happening-2nd wave going by.. finally put the goggles up on my head & just endured! Lol What would you do differently?: Not break a collarbone & be unable to swim until 2 weeks before the event..?Have goggles that don't leak? Be a better swimmer?Wear the wetsuit? Transition 1
Comments: L O N G way to T-1, rough & mucky..Last rack - long way to get out.. had stuff in a trash bag..still got a bit soggy What would you do differently?: keep stuff drier-have a Gu & a drink avail Bike
Comments: Given the conditions, and my prep, bike was ok, tho disappointing. Was cautious of puddles and downhills, and hills were more difficult than they should have been-haven't done any real bike hill or speed training this season (sigh) and it ahowed What would you do differently?: prep and agressiveness, wear lighter toned sunglasses! Transition 2
Comments: t2 went ok- had a bit of muscle cramp when changing shoes- has happened before too..sox were muddy & soaked .. What would you do differently?: faster Run
Comments: felt ok- took it easy - feeling the hammy a bit & not wanting to push it- wanna be in the game for the season, even if it's just sprints & bop..just want to race What would you do differently?: have a hammy transplant Post race
Warm down: really didn't feel bad at all- didn't sprint to finish so just walked for a minute or so & got some water- went back to watch the reast of the BTers come in..THAT was fun!Changed into dry clothes for the awards. What limited your ability to perform faster: It's been a l o n g winter/spring...but ..I'm back and SOOO glad to be! Event comments: Performance wise..this was not a great race for me- but it wasn't about that.Just HAPPY to be able to be there and to finish and to do so without feeling like it set me back.I realized as I was running that I hadn't stopped grinning since coming out of the water... was actually laughing out loud on the run..! Had fun hanging during the start delay with Ellen & Kathy & Glen...they kept me from freaking out about propelling myself 1/2 mile with basically zero swim practice since accident. Out on the course - Kathy was "riding with the boys"on her new bike and smiling each time I saw her, gliding across the finish line with ease, Ellen was looking strong on the bike, high fived on the run,and cruised in smiling.Kept expecting Glen to swim over me, fly by me on the bike, but passed him going out on the run-shirtless-instead...smiling.I had very little sleep, wasn't "ready" training wise to race,..It was rainy ....and I had a BLAST! Happy Happy Dance...!!! Last updated: 2006-06-26 12:00 AM

Started raining pretty heavily as was waiting to register & use the (disgusting) porta potty..had about 10-15 min to set up soggy transition, hemmed & hawed & vacillated & decided to go without wetsuit...
stood around getting REALLY chilled on the beach waiting for the delayed start
