Pre-race routine:

Annie Oakley
Event warmup:

Road to the race site, and got all my gear set up. 7:00 am and it's freaking HOT! ;-)
Swim
  • 17h 51m 51s
  • 656 yards
  • 2h 43m 21s / 100 yards
Comments:

Coming off my illustrious CapTexTri event a few months ago, I was worried about the swim. Longer distance... and I hate to say it but 'eww'... the water was GROSS. I ended up freestyling for about 25 meters, then switching to breast stroke for the rest of the swim. This time was MUCH easier than the last, but I'm still slow as hell. My birthday is coming up on the 31st, and I've asked for total immersion dvd's. ;-) I did alright with my pase, and just getitng through until I got towards the end, then I got attacked by swamp grass. There were times on the upstroke, that I'd come up and look like I was the swamp monster. I was tired, but I was glad that it didn't totally devestate me this time, not a single thought of quitting. ;-)
What would you do differently?:

Train more - this seems to be my ongoing mantra. I've loved the two tris I've done, but I haven't committed myself to the time training. That has to change.
Transition 1
  • 05m 39s
Comments:

My transition time was SOOOO much better... 8:06 for my first tri... and I think the distance was further this time.
What would you do differently?:

I was worried about my 'non-swimming friend' behind me (he was using a snorkel)... next time I'll forget he exists. ;)
Bike
  • 50h 57m 7s
  • 15 miles
  • 0.29 mile/hr
Comments:

Last out of the water in my group... a few people still getting their gear... so I had LOTS of room... got on the bike, started sucking down water from my camelbak (it was COLD, thank you very much)... but I still felt like puking a bit after 5 or 10 minutes. The ride was typical Katy flatland and it was hot. Didn't have any close encounters with cars (Thanks God!)
What would you do differently?:

Keep my pass up... I tend to take it easy, rather than pushing myself hard. Guess I'm wanting to make sure I can finish.
Transition 2
  • 04m 6s
Comments:

This went pretty well - other than the fact that the rack is ALL the way at the back... it was quick, rack the bike, hat off, camelbak off, racebelt on, and I was good... I did forget to take my gloves off.
What would you do differently?:

Run with my bike...
Run
  • 51h 57m 19s
  • 3 miles
  • 17h 19m 06s  min/mile
Comments:

I need to run more... nothing will change that. I walked a good portion of the run portion.
What would you do differently?:

I need to train more.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, tried not to puke. ;-)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My lack of training.

Event comments:

This race was great... I felt challenged overall.
