Pre-race routine:

drove there, drank some water before leaving the house and one the way. Ate a bar and drank coffee on the way; gel before the first heat went.

Comments:

I put down 4 min 10 sec as my expected time for 200 yards and was placed in the last heat. Almost every heat before me had people flailing, doggy-paddling, doing breaststroke ont their backs, taking 10 minutes to do the swim. Starting with about heat 7 everyone in the heats could actually swim. It would be great if they could fix this but no big deal. It would be a bigger deal if this race gets bigger, or if the day had been hotter.
What would you do differently?:

um... underestimate my swim time?

Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Plantar fascitis on the run. Other than that nothing- happy with my bike and swim.

Event comments:

Very nice race. Can't say enough about the volunteers- I was never in doubt about where I had to go. Bike and run were both very well marked, and volunteers told you clearly where to go.
Lots of people complained about the run- it sounds like they change it every year so it might be different next year.

Time is for swim, T1, bike (and maybe t2?) Fantastic bike course. Some hills but nothing major, plenty of places you could work up to some speed, and volunteers or officers at every single intersection where you'd have any question about where to go. Passed 4-5 people on mountain bikes/ hybrids. no one passed me.
Wind: Little
Course: rolling hills around the high school- FANTASTIC! Seriously the nicest bike course I've done in Western PA- almost all smooth pavement, no killer hills.

Course: cross-country course: through lawns, around a small neighborhood, through the woods, through more lawns... with a final lap around the track. There were plenty of volunteers at every turn-around but it was a brutal run. No time to get into a rhythm.
