Pre-race routine:

Ate too much the night before. Beef brisket with bbq sauce, potatoes and some tempura'd vegetables. And then a big chocolate lava cake. So delicious. Woke up at 4am and couldn't use the bathroom, of course. Drove the 45 minutes to the race, somehow missed packet pickup and rode to the start only to have to ride all the way back to the parking lot. OH well. Got everything set up in plenty of time. Forgot my socks for T1, an extra pair of goggs and a few other things but had my bike, helmet, sunglasses and shoes, the important things.
Event warmup:

Swam around. Gave monica a kiss for good luck and off she went. She was FLYING on the swim.
Swim
  • 16m 14s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 50s / 100 yards
Comments:

Well I survived another swim. Woot. I friggin' hate swimming. What a dumb thing to do. I'm not a fish.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Stupid swimming.
Transition 1
  • 02m 47s
Comments:

Slow transitions are my thang.
Bike
  • 51m 59s
  • 15.5 miles
  • 17.94 mile/hr
Comments:

Vroom vroom said my bike. OK not really. I wish it had a motor on it. Then I'd be faster. Meh it's a nice course. Lots of hills, but that's to be expected. Perfect weather for a bike ride.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 2
  • 01m 34s
Comments:

Just plopped down, threw on the socks and shoes and visor and off I went.
Run
  • 31m 39s
  • 4 miles
  • 07m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

Goal was to go sub-30:00 but I had some pretty severe cramping of the calves. Ow.
What would you do differently?:

Do whatever I can to prevent calf cramping?
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around. Ate a sammich and some grapes and drank some water. Found Monica and Chris and saw Schmize and Holly and then we all found Laura and it was all shits and giggles from there on out. Rode back to the car and went for some brekkie.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My cramping calves and my overall lack of desire to train properly. And my general disdain for swimming. There was much lolly gagging as well. You know what that makes me? Larry?

Event comments:

What a great race! Loved hanging out with Chris n Laura and Molly Norbit Quentin and seeing Scott and Holly and all the rest. As always, Trudy Wakeman (race director) puts on a great show. We shall be back next year.
