Swim
Comments: Swam most of it freestyle...a little breast stroke thrown in when I need to reorient. Just took it easy went buoy-to-buoy out to the turn-around then back to shore. Visability was ZERO. I found a good groove mentally because I was able to breathe every three strokes rather than feeling like I needed to breathe every two most of the way. What would you do differently?: Practice in open-water...with no visibiity Transition 1
Comments: Scored a PRIME transition spot...end of the rack on the main corridor through the TA so finding my spot was a piece of cake. Rinsed feet, put on socks and cycle shoes, grabbed sunglasses and helmet, and off I went for the hike to the mount-line for the bike leg. What would you do differently?: I should start running in and out of transition. Bike
Comments: Not a bad bike ride for me considering the hills. I need to just go out and do hill repeats to get to the point where I can get up moderate hills and maintain a decent cadence and speed. What would you do differently?: Need to develop the ability to power up hills instead of simply survive them. Transition 2
Comments: Nearly lost it getting unclipped at the dismount line. Unclipped my left foot first...I think this is a throw back to my motorcycle days when "left foot down first" is the norm. Unfortunatly I started going right before my right foot was fully disengaged. Managed to save it before I was too far gone. There was a hike back to the TA. Used this time for additional hydration. Changed shoes. Helmet off, hat on, race belt on...and off I went. What would you do differently?: Again...the running in and out would improve time. Run
Comments: Walked the first little bit then basically walk/run at an easy pace. A fellow Athena caught up to me on the first out and back loop and I jogged along side her for a little while. What would you do differently?: Could have pushed a little harder. Post race
Warm down: Walked around...got water and gatorade. Went and stood inside this tent they had set up that showered water down. Very cool and it was nice to wash a layer of lake off. What limited your ability to perform faster: Extra weight and overall fitness. Event comments: It's a great race venue despite PCB lake. Bill Scott and Set-Up, Inc. do a great job with overall race production. Last updated: 2006-06-28 12:00 AM

Alarm went off at 5:00...snoozed until 5:15. Showered, dressed, loaded stuff in van, had a bagel with peanut butter as I headed to the race site.
Splashed around a bit prior to my wave starting.
