Swim
Comments: I freaked out a bit about 50m in, which I wasn't expecting. Did some breast stroke/back stroke to calm down, and then was okay once I rounded the first buoy. Switching to breathing every two strokes helped. The water was warm and murky, but calm. For a first open water swim, I was reasonably happy with my performance. What would you do differently?: warm up, practice open water swimming before the race. Transition 1
Comments: Loooong run up to the transition area and needed to pull on bike shorts, but smooth overall. Bike
Comments: Reasonably happy with my performance given that my training (particularly long rides) was definitely lacking. What would you do differently?: More long rides, more hills. Transition 2
Run
Comments: Coming off the bike, and the giant hill that quickly followed, was brutal! It was very hot and humid and I struggled the first mile or so with heavy legs (walked part of the hill) but eventually started feeling better and the second lap was much better than the first. I was hoping my time would be faster, but for me, it wasn't a horrible run. What would you do differently?: more bricks Post race
Event comments: A good race for a first triathlon. Course was well marked, staff was friendly, and the novice info session the previous afternoon was helpful. Last updated: 2013-06-28 12:00 AM
