Pre-race routine:

Up at 4:45, showered, bowl of Cheerios, out by 5:30. Arrived at 5:50. Went to Beacon Cycling Tent and got tires pumped. Ate a Nature Valley bar and went to swim staging with water bottle and sweatshirt (49 degrees before sun came out).
Event warmup:

Had to be out of transition by 6:40 and didn't start until 7:48, so only real warmup was running back and forth to port o pottys.
Swim
  • 22m 54s
  • 1760 yards
  • 01m 18s / 100 yards
Comments:

Should have tried to get to the front wave more. Went in front/middle pack and was swimming alone for a good portion. Would've liked to be on that first or second wave and draft off the top guys.
What would you do differently?:

Get to front for start.
Transition 1
  • 02m 23s
Bike
  • 54m 38s
  • 20 miles
  • 21.96 mile/hr
Comments:

Really shocked myself with this bike ride. Was going into race thinking I'd be very happy to ride 20mph and ended up going 22mph. Everything felt great and didn't feel like I was working too hard at all. Definitely my best bike ride of the season and very happy with it.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 2
  • 01m 47s
Comments:

Lock laces help.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 44m 34s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 07m 11s  min/mile
Comments:

Didn't drink nearly enough (2-3 sips) on the bike and cramped up badly. Felt it everywhere the entire run, but was still very pleased and happy with this run.

Three months ago at Philly was only an 8:22 pace. Started running XC with the school team simply to get my run faster and it paid off. 7:10 pace with severe cramps the whole time, so very happy.
What would you do differently?:

Drink more on bike. Gatorade preferably to prevent cramps.
Post race
Warm down:

Easy, short run. Wasn't feeling up to much with cramps.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not drinking enough on the bike.

Event comments:

Definitely a great way to end my season. Everything went better than planned and knowing all the hard work paid off is a big relief and just makes ya want to work harder next season. Was one race short of my goal (3/4) for getting on the podium each time but it is what it is. Definitely made a big stride from just trying this sport to this season. Happy happy happy.
