Pre-race routine:

Event warmup:

short run
Swim
  • 36m 32s
  • 1760 yards
  • 02m 05s / 100 yards
Comments:

I was miserable. Panic, couldn't catch my breath without water intake first 10 strokes. Stopped, tread water a bit then went. Got to turn toward shore, into current and I was a mess. Swam in place for several minutes and made no progress, Decided to swim direct into shore instead of finish and then walked along the beach for second lap. Then back in. headed toward first buoy but missed and cut thru oncoming swimmers, had to turn around. I don't know what I did wrong! I'm very small, I just don't think I had the power against the river.
What would you do differently?:

never swim against a current!
Transition 1
  • 02m 28s
Bike
  • 1h 14m 41s
  • 22 miles
  • 17.78 mile/hr
Comments:

course flat with rolling hills, pavement not great. Passed by 5 men all with aero bars. This was fast for me so I'm happy.
What would you do differently?:

I guess I would benefit from aero bars. Also kept high cadence, but might be better with more power based on my training type then raise cadence at very end.
Transition 2
  • 01m 5s
Comments:

I didn't run, I think I was hitting a small wall, but grabbed some blocks. I forgot my race belt
Run
  • 57m 8s
  • 6 miles
  • 09m 40s  min/mile
Comments:

not my best run, I was tired. This is pretty slow. I was faster the last 3 miles and should have had that pace the first 3 but I was afraid of passing out. It was a bit depressing to see all the sprint runners coming toward you on the out bound mile...
What would you do differently?:

train.
Post race
Warm down:

pant

What limited your ability to perform faster:

More training. THE current. I was a bit dazed most of the race, mixed up during the swim, dropped my glasses, forgot my race belt. This was my first olympic, and I can't tell if its a lack of training to the distance or the newness? It felt terrible even though it was a fast time for me compared to my sprints.

Event comments:

Good race, a little busy on the roads and confusing with all the Sprinters.
