Pre-race routine:

Left hotel at 5 for starbucks. Stopped for oatmeal and coffee and was at the race by 6:15. Plenty of set up and warm up time
Event warmup:

Ran enough to get really warm. Temp was up, so it was easy. Then got on the wetsuit and got a good swim.
Swim
  • 06m
  • 440 yards
  • 01m 22s / 100 yards
Comments:

Not a bad swim. Went out a little hard and was breathless by the first turn. Backed off a bit and was solid for the balance of the swim. Came out of water in good shape.
What would you do differently?:

Keep training
Transition 1
  • 00m 48s
Comments:

Trouble getting my suit off that cost me a few seconds. Other than that, not bad. Had my chain on the small ring and threw my chain TWICE at the start. What a way to start the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.

Comments:

Threw my chain TWICE at the start. Gawd. Started to peddle, doink. Get off, get chain on, get on, start to peddle....doink, get off, do it again, shift up. Got passed by a lot of guys. I lost at least 30 seconds. Hit it really hard after that!
What would you do differently?:

Make sure my chain is set when I set up my bike in the morning.
Transition 2
  • 00m 35s
Comments:

Good transition

Post race
Warm down:

Walked around. Ate a bit and hydrated

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Throwing my bike chain.

Event comments:

Another good Budu race. I've done this race three years in a row. Budu does a nice job. As long as the pavement is dry it's a fast fun bike ride. If wet, watch out as the pavement is slick. The run has a few modest hills, so be ready. Swim is very easy.
