Swim
Comments: Out strong and not too fast - didn't loose my breath. What would you do differently?: Get the right swim cap! Transition 1
Comments: Good transition - bike racked in an excellent location. What would you do differently?: Need to figure out the heels on the wet suit - always a hang-up Bike
Comments: Lost one water bottle on one of the speed bumps or the railroad tracks on the first half of the course. Out of drink shortly after the 1/2 way turn-around, slurping drops to keep my lips moist for final 20 miles! OUCH! Severely dehydrated by the finish of the bike portion. What would you do differently?: Secure water bottles better Transition 2
Comments: Parched! Run
Comments: Guzzled water/electrolite at first water stop (1 mile). Quickly turned to side cramps. Ran/walked next 4 miles absolutely dehydrated and hot. Drank at every stop along the way. Finally get enough energy in the last mile to run at a moderate pace. What would you do differently?: Stay hydrated throughout the race to avoid problems at this point. Run slow and steady rather than run/walk. Post race
Warm down: Fluids and Shade! Kept moving and stretched. Ate some pasta and fresh strawberries - Yum Yum! What limited your ability to perform faster: Dehydration Event comments: VERY HOT race. Majority of racers complained of not taking enough liquid on the bike, and just about everyone was suffering on the run. Except for the run, I had an excellent race. Great FIRST Olympic! Very nervous - First O-Distance Tri, just trying to get my bearings and get my staging set up properly. Picked up my registration number, didn't realize the goodie bag had more stuff, or that there even was a goodie bag! Therefore, didn't realize there were color-coded caps for the wave starts and wore my own cap. Ran back to registration to get my goodie bag cap. HOT PINK - nice color for Mens 40+ - welcome to the Masters Division!
No warm-up, unless you count sprinting back to registration to get my swim cap before the wave started.
