Swim
What would you do differently?: Get goggle gunk to keep them from fogging up. Also, be prepared to push past people more often. I waited at the end, 3 lengths in a row, for the person in front of me to move ahead before I pushed off and still caught them by the halfway point. Transition 1
Comments: I had practiced my T1 and T2 over 30 times the day before so they were as fast as could be. What I did NOT realize is that my hands would also be wet and slippery, (duh Paul) so it took me an extra 50m of slow riding to get my shoe straps tightened as my hands could not grip them. Also, the transition area was quite far from the pool and the bike mount/dismount was also waaaaay outside. There is a lot of time here just trying to get to and from transition. What would you do differently?: Shake hands free as you leave the pool. Practice T1 with wet hands. Bike
Comments: More hilly than my research had indicated. I knew about the first "big hill" up to the church but beyond that Google street view is NOT a reliable visual research tool or inclines. :) I have done tonnes of hill training on my bike so this wasn't a problem. What would you do differently?: I will my route research in-person next time. Transition 2
Comments: Even with practice I was a bit shaky as I don't feel uber-confident with my run just yet. My right sock/shoe went well but the left was trickier for some reason and it threw me off mentally a tony bit. What would you do differently?: Keep practicing to make this smoother. I want it automatic and not a worry. Run
Comments: Not enough hydration. What would you do differently?: More gels during the ride segment to push me through the first 2 laps. I started slow and it was hard to get moving faster each lap. Might grab a small hand bottle and fill it with water. I had two gels in the back pocket that I never even used. foolish mistake. Also, get a hat as my fresh brush-cut earned me a scalp sunburn. :) Post race
Warm down: Stretch out legs and shoulders. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not enough nutrition and low self-confidence on the run. Event comments: Needed an additional drink station on the far side of the run loop. Far too hot for water only every 1.2km. Last updated: 2013-07-03 12:00 AM

A gel 15 mins before the swim. Full exposed skin sunscreen application. Body glide the tops of my feet, around ankle bones and on my achilles. Body glide the tongue, sides and heel of my cycling shoes as well. This was my first race cycling barefoot.
Leg stretches. Sit as waiting to enter pool to save legs. Shoulder dynamic stretches.
