Overall Rank = 369/491

Age Group Rank = 15/28
Pre-race routine:

Woke up and drove downtown to set up my running stuff at T2. Drove back home, picked up the rest of my stuff, and rode with Kevin to the dam. On the way to the dam, I ate my breakfast (peanut butter sandwich and a rice krispie treat).
Event warmup:

Stretched before the swim.
Swim
  • 14m 37s
  • 402 meters
  • 03m 38s / 100 meters
Comments:

The swim sucked. I had put a lot of effort into the training portion of this race. In the pool, I can swim a half mile in just a little over the time it took me to do this quarter of a mile. I had to do the backstroke several times, plus stop and rest two times (by holding onto the rope). That had me disheartened at the time, because I knew that I had put in the training, and I know that I am a better swimmer than that.
What would you do differently?:

All that I could have done differently is put in more time practicing in open water instead of the pool.
Transition 1
  • 05m 19s
Comments:

I took a little extra time at this transition, because I was so worn out from dog paddling most of the swim. I dried off pretty good before I got on my bike.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really.
Bike
  • 29m 35s
  • 8.2 miles
  • 16.63 mile/hr
Comments:

I really enjoyed the bike portion of the race. It was fun, and flat enough so that you could challenge yourself on speed instead of having to worry about holding back for hills.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really. I really enjoyed it.
Transition 2
  • 01m 25s
Comments:

I was really happy with the way that I handled my bike. After my big wreck (a week ago today), I had been concerned about it all week...turned out I had nothing to worry about.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 19m 33s
  • 2.5 miles
  • 07m 49s  min/mile
Comments:

My legs were tired and wobbly at first...especially my thighs. About 5 minutes into the run, I started feeling pretty good.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed a bottle of Dasani and waited for Kevin.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not used to being around so many people in the water--never got into a groove during the swim--

Event comments:

I really enjoyed this race. The swimming portion was difficult for me. I talked to several people after the race, and they all said the same thing. Open water swimming is just not fun! If I get more practice at it though, maybe I will get used to it, and my times for open water swimming will improve.
