Swim
Comments: Navigation has gotten better, but still not nearly where I need to be What would you do differently?: Not too much other than work on navigating more while training. Transition 1
Comments: Sat down to take off my wetsuit, not as fast as I could have been, but wasn't unhappy about it. Took a drink and loaded 2 cliff bars and a gel into my top What would you do differently?: not much, overall only could have gained about 30 seconds. Bike
Comments: Disappointed in the new course, too rough for too long in my opinion. The wind did pick up toward the end and I over did it a little in the last 5-10 miles I felt it. What would you do differently?: More hydration, didn't take water at last aid station and realized a mile later I just had my last sip! Also forgot to eat my second clif bar Transition 2
Comments: Wasn't in a huge hurry and changed my socks to avoid blisters on the run. Took some fluid and was off. I was fairly cooked from the run, but told myself its only a half marathon and I can run-walk if needed.. What would you do differently?: not much Run
Comments: Tried to over compensate on fluids after running out on the bike. Paired up with a fellow competitor for the first 8 or so miles, running and talking to Tim helped the miles go by. He wanted to walk a little more at that time than I did, so I continued on alone. The last 3 miles were rougher than the first 8 with Tim, oh well, it was nice to pass the time with a new friend! What would you do differently?: find my pace and not over do the fluid early. Post race
Warm down: I was spent, walked around catching my breath, tried to forget the stomach cramps, took some pictures, took my time packing up and headed home for an ice batch, compression socks, a nap and then pizza for dinner!!! What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training, I really wasn't ready and am happy to finish, but disappointed I didn't give much better effort during training, results showed.... Event comments: Only complaint was the bike layout, just too rough a road for too long on the back side. A special thank you to all the volunteers, they were AMAZING!!! Got up at 4 a.m. Loaded my gear, grabbed some trail mix and Perform for the drive. Drove about 50 minutes to the reservoir, was early enough to park close.
Ate a clif bar, set up transition area, watched the pros go, got wetsuit on and swam a little warm up. Back to my AG to be funneled through for a 7:43 start.
