![]() Swim
Comments: Swim start was mostly frustrating. The water was too shallow, thought with my swimming background I could simply out swim everyone so I tried to swim too soon. Before coming to the turn, I found my self in the women's novice wave. Lots of swimmers going in every different direction. What would you do differently?: I should try and learn how to do the dolphin technique. Given that I was a buterflyer in my previous life, this should be easy. Not sign up for the novice (even if it is my first year) to get a better starting position. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: Didn't want to push it during the transition. My swim wasn't as clean as I wanted so the HR was a bit higher than I wanted, tried to get it down before getting on the bike. Everying was smooth, just not rushed. What would you do differently?: Better swim so I can push the transition more. ![]() Bike
Comments: First time on new bike. Given that I was in the last heat - I was passed only once, but passed many on mtn bikes. With out a computer, I had no idea how fast/slow I was going. I felt like I was pushing it as hard as I wanted to since I wasn't sure how my legs were going to hold out. What would you do differently?: Get more rides in on the new bike - get a computer so I can track my training rides. Not enter the novice catagory so I'm not off by myself. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Everything was smooth - but not rushed What would you do differently?: Put my socks on - see run ![]() Run
Comments: For some reason, I tought I could run with out socks. The first part of the run was hard. Legs didn't want to respond very well. Middle of the run I just felt hot, but the legs started to come around. At the two mile point I felt hot spots on both heels. Blisters popped with 1/2 mile to go. Ran a few steps - too painful. Took off my shoes and caried them in. Felt better running on the grass with my bear feet - grass was much cooler than the pavement. What would you do differently?: Wear socks! Do brick workouts Go for more runs in general ![]() Post race
Warm down: Looked for someone with a first aid kit and ate cookies What limited your ability to perform faster: Experience, run training, time on new bike Event comments: NO FIRST AID STATION AT THE END OF THE RACE! Had to track down someone via radio. Last updated: 2006-06-29 12:00 AM

Woke up at 4:30 am - out the door by 5:00 am. It was a nice change to be driving up 35W & 169 on cruse control. Was one of the last to get into the close parking lot. Met up with a training mate who left at 5:15 and he ran into driving rain through Minneapolis - glad I got out the door when I did.
Ran a little bit, biked the run cource, sat around and waited to get into the water for the lighting to pass. I need to remember to try and get a good lake swim in the night before and not expect to warm up much the day of the race.
