![]() Swim
Comments: The warm up helped - this time I was ready to swim at the start. Did the dolphin start and I have a feeling quite a few guys did the same - the waves generated during the start were almost surfable. Quite confusing given the no wind and flatness to the lake when we started. I let two guys sprint out in front, tried to draft off the second, then figured I would catch them later on. Never did catch the other two and swam alone for the rest of the time. The cource was different from last time - I don't believe I went 3 min faster than last year. What would you do differently?: Not much - everything went ok. I still could use more breakaway speed to get away from the masses better. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: I'm never in a hurry during transition. The only problem was being in the first wave and one of the first out of the water - I felt everyone was watching - including my wife wondering what was taking so long. I had problems getting the wet suit off for some reason. Also, I put my shirt on backwards first - nothing like trying to take a shirt off and put it back on when your wet. What would you do differently?: Work on getting the wet suit off better. ![]() Bike
Comments: It felt like each bump went from the bike to my arms to my lower back. Strange considering how good my training rides were the previous two weeks. Not sure if it was the rough track or just me. What would you do differently?: Get a new bike ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Stopped to tell my wife how much my back hurt - but went on anyways ![]() Run
Comments: Didn't get off to a good start given my back from the bike. It felt better than last year - but not a whole lot faster. What would you do differently?: Work on hills in the off season ![]() Post race
Warm down: Played with the kids What limited your ability to perform faster: The need to get into better shape Event comments: The best reason for this race - the post race party with the Summit Beer. Not sure about the organization this year. I didn't pick up my packet on Friday night - so I missed out on the t-shirt and didn't get a good answer as to why there weren't enough shirts printed. Drove up to the Hayward KOA on Friday night. Didn’t sleep very well due to noisy neighbors. There was a bit of mist in the air on the drive up to the race site. Got checked in, found out that they had run out of shirts, but did get the all important beer glass for the post race party.
After getting the transition area set up, went for a short run, felt good. Remembered to get into the water and do a true swim warmup rather than using the first 1/2 of the race as the warmup
