Pre-race routine:

Got Prepped--changed wave time to the earlier (slower) wave; wen't back to the truck to drop off the swag, which was a bit of a walk as the roads near the venue were mostly closed. I then settled down in a shady spot to await friend's arrivals.
Event warmup:

Not much, I had been on my feet all day, so 'warming up' seemed a bit like overkill.

Comments:

All in all, I am very pleased with my performance. I did much more running than I thought possible, and actually felt pretty good overall. At times, I was trotting along at a 10:30/mile pace surprisingly. Up until mile 9 I felt great, lots of energy, no pain, and no breathing issues. After mile 9, my energy flagged a bit, but adding a few more walk breaks helped. I will say that around mile 7 I got distracted...A guy flying a remote control "flying wing" next to the course; I was really into watching that wing do flips, loop-de-loops, etc....pretty awesome. At mile 11, my feet and ankles decided they were unhappy and that UNDER NO TERMS WOULD THEY BE HAPPY! Oh the pain! At 11.75 miles, I basically was walking. I had the energy, and the will but it just HURT. When we came to the last quarter mile, I could see the chute in sight, at which point I got a blast of energy that overrode the pain, and I did run the way in.
What would you do differently?:

Hmmm....maybe TRAIN???? Obviously, this was not a choice for a race that I only knew I was doing a few days beforehand. And at least, I know what I CAN do regardless, and so I can aim for a specific time and feel before Urban Cow in October.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretched, hung out with my run team friends (one of which did Tough Mudder- 10+ miles and obstacles that very morning, then drove back from Tahoe to run this half! CRAZY! But he did it!), and ate some food. Then I drove home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Its that silly lack of training thing again. That and some silly foot pain at the end....

Event comments:

I had fun, it was a good setup, but there was very little moon light....it was a waning crescent moon. :( In any case, I had a good time and may do it again next year. Even though they did start my wave 10 minutes late....

Running
02:57:16 | 13.11 miles | 13m 34s  min/mile
Age Group: 97/122
Overall: 596/810
Performance: Good
Course: First off, according to my Nike + doohickey on my Ipod, I actually ran 13.6 miles...which would have put me at a 13.08 pace. Just sayin'. The course was a very loopy course, into and out of neighborhoods, bike trails, and also a few freeway overpasses thrown in for good measure. The first three miles were particularly sunny and hot, with VERY little shade to be found, but after mile 6, there was considerably better amounts of shade and lesser amounts of sun.
