Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 5:30 made a shake and a cup of coffee finished loading everything up and drove the little over 1 hour to the venue, set up my transition area and talked with a couple of friends from our group.
Event warmup:

About a 1/2 mile of light jogging and some stretching.
Swim
  • 09m 57s
  • 350 yards
  • 02m 50s / 100 yards
Comments:

Well that was about the worst I could have done, my legs were shot from the bike and the run and I could notice my legs sinking really bad it was a fight for the whole swim. I knew I wasn't going to improve my placing or get caught by anyone behind me so I really lost focus and swam very poorly.
What would you do differently?:

Keep pushing even if I can't improve my placing I can still push myself to have a good swim.
Transition 1
  • 00m 28s
Comments:

Being a revese again this was a run to bike really it was a good transition, I passed two people while in transition.
What would you do differently?:

nothing.
Bike
  • 37m 37s
  • 13.31 miles
  • 21.23 mile/hr
Comments:

I had a good bike leg. With the exception of the first 3/4 miles I got stuck behind someone in a vehicle that was really lost and I could not get around them. I also noticed at about mile 2 I was in the small chain ring, which was a mistake. This race is in a very rural community and I also got crop dusted, literally sprayed with pesticide by an airplane, fortunatly I saw it coming and was able to protect my water bottles and rinse the taste out of my mouth. I made the turn at exactly a 20 MPH average and finished at 21.23 MPH so I made quite a bit back.
What would you do differently?:

Stzrt in the right ring and just go around the car. Can't do much about the crop duster so oh well.
Transition 2
  • 00m 35s
Comments:

Can't really do any better except getting my feet out of the shoes faster.
Run
  • 23m 59s
  • 3.13 miles
  • 07m 28s  min/mile
Comments:

I had a good run but started to slow down at the end. I'm going to try to not go out as hard as I did next time, but it's hard when your racing. I wanted to negative split this run but didn't have it in me in the second half but I only lost about :05 seconds per mile average.
What would you do differently?:

Don't let the race get to me and run my race.
Post race
Warm down:

Played with Tucker who was waiting for me to get out of the pool, had a bananna, some oranges and some electrolytes, and waited for the awards. I ended up with a big container or recoverite so that was good.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Swimming, I have to get better and faster but I was gassed by the end of the bike.

Event comments:

Not a bad race but it could have been better.
