Total Time = 1h 31m 32s
Overall Rank = 54/248
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 4/20
Pre-race routine:

I stayed a mile from the hotel so I could ride my bike in. Then my family met me at T1. I ate a Powerbar, drank a cup of coffee, and took a gel.
Event warmup:

A mile ride to the race and a few minutes in the pool.
Swim
  • 18m
  • 800 meters
  • 02m 15s / 100 meters
Comments:

I was very happy with my swim. I passed about 5 people in the pool. I swam my own race and didn't think about anyone else.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

My T1 was fairly slow. We had a long way between the pool and the transition area. I took a little longer than I wanted to but I didn't want to overdo it at T1.
What would you do differently?:

I would have put my bike closer to the exit. I ran too long in cycling shoes.
Bike
  • 46m 30s
  • 14 miles
  • 18.06 mile/hr
Comments:

I had a pretty good ride. I didn't want to overdo it. I averaged 18 mph and am happy with it. I haven't ridden this course before. There were lots of turns and they all seem to be involved with an uphill.
What would you do differently?:

Ride my bike more.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

The transition went pretty smooth.
What would you do differently?:

I should have parked my bike closer to the T1 exit/T2 entrance. I spent too much time running in my clycing shoes.
Run
  • 23m 8s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 26s  min/mile
Comments:

I had a decent run. I didn't feel it in my cardiovascular system though. I was cramping a little bit for the 1st quarter mile, then had to fight with cars until 3/4 of a mile.

My family was waiting at the finish line. Ben ran the last 50 meters with me.
What would you do differently?:

I should have pushed harder.
Post race
Warm down:

I just walked around. I realized that it was hot about 10 seconds after I crossed the finish line.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I need to train more. It's pure lack of training. I need to ride more.

Event comments:

There was some confusion near T1 and T2. I was coming out of the locker room pre-race and had to help a triathlete get to T1. He ran right past the turn. The same happened on my run when a cyclist was looking for the way to T2.

Otherwise, it was well organized. There were lots of volunteers and the main portions of the course were well labeled.
