Pre-race routine:

Y and I worked the kids tri Saturday and then picked up packet. Then Mike came down and I went back to packet pick up his.
Got to bed at 11 or so laid awake till 1:30. Slept pretty good just up once to pee.
It was a cold and rainy morning the wind blew stiff out of the north. Up at 5. Rode bikes to race. It was a rainy a bit and then Got a decent spot and hung out for 3 and half hours. Sat under a eve of an old restaurant with Y, Kara, Cheri and Mike, Shirley (MIL) arrive about 8:00 and the weather started to clear at least the rain stopped. We finally get moving a little as Kara goes off at 8:20. Nice only 50 minutes for my waves. Cheri off at 8:40. Finally decide to put on wet suit after third trip to porta potty. See Y off and watch her start. We get counted in. Mike and contemplate life Oh wait its time to go. Wish Mike luck with a bad shoulder and hurting foot.
+963.
Event warmup:

get knee deep and start swimming for about 50yds. Talk to Jim he is porpoising most the way. I find this tires the legs pretty good. He tells me its faster and it is. Line up front center but the start line is like 100ft wide so not really crowded at all.

Comments:

Started out well. I have had a left drift to my sighting so I found myself correcting all season. 3/4 out I took a peek left and Jim was just ahead of me. Rounded buoy well and the cross buoy was like diagonal into the left. Hit that one good. I got my head down and not really checking anything around me. I find myself drifting way left and probably swam a little extra but was passing the wave ahead before the end. Didn't see Y. She may have beaten me in since we had 7 minutes b/t waves. I couldn't get my arms out and has to stop to pull hard on the run in to T1.
What would you do differently?:

Not much maybe spam my arms and legs.

Comments:

Could not get the suit off. The left foot came out fairly well but right stuck hard. After that I did OK. got stuck behind a couple slow pokes getting out of T1. Move, move , move.
What would you do differently?:

The spam thing.
Bike

Comments:

Lanes are half of a lane so passing is tough especially when the person you want to pass is riding left. I took an inside lane and pass one then yell at the other one to get right. There got a little room in front of me. Bike is feeling good. Its up for the first half. Some how got up there a ways without to getting pass by my AG.
Pass the sign Y made for me asking me if I peed in my wetsuit. Of course I did.
Then it was one after another till the end. Probably around 10-12. Lots of 52 year olds. Traffic is light and well behaved for the most part. 5 miles out there is a guy with a flat being helped by SAG. Then at 8 miles is a line of flats waiting for help from SAG. One is Kens BIL. No sign of Cheri but she has a half hour on me. No taps from Mike either. Feels like I'm moving but still the 52 y/os go by me. WTF I guess my speed is that off from working endurance all summer.
On the way back in the crowd erupts. My sister and her gang gives me a good cheer in. Feels good. Oh yeah BIL did not catch me.
What would you do differently?:

I am pulling a lot of extra weight around.

Setting bike in slot and i hear Mike "Damn it on the wrong side". He has to come over a rack. WOW he must have had a hell of bike. I can usually hold him off for a little of the run. Out of bike shoes knee brace on, number on and visor on. Mike is racked. No the topper. Pull out a nice pink tutu and pink tiara. Put on my Annalises run shirt. Its a 5K princess run for 2012. Its for a little girl who died of cancer and friends and family put this on in her memory. . Its next Saturday but thought I would start a little early and have some fun too.
What would you do differently?:

Bring a tutu for Mike.

Comments:

Mike has me in about 1/10th of a mile. We run together the rest of the way. He must like the look of my tutu and tiara. getting some baffle looks and some good cheers. On the way out I hear it announced "We have our first tutu on the course". Really it very comfortable to run in and barely noticed that tiara. Ed M. is baffled by it at first then tell me on the way by I had a T2 malfunction.
On one corner next to the lake the crowd goes nuts for it. OK well about 6 girls at loving it.
Up over the bridge and getting lots of thumbs up from runners going the opposite way and kids are giving a little scream in delight at the guy in the tutu. Mike and plug along.
Y has made up a lots little signs. She said she made a special one for me. I thought it was the wetsuit one but no.
On the lagoon the is a couple nice one cheering us on. Then one I have to set up that says. "Mike & Dud, Bro friends forever." She has no idea that I'm wearing a tutu and tiara as Mike and I run along. Back out of the lagoon and to the crowds.
My sister gang goes nuts. Ed gets a few good picture but is still baffled.
Ken is shaking his head a little and Connie is loving it.
Come up on the rest stop and walk it. One of volunteers recognizes the run and gives me a big thumbs up.
Run by the next stop and get a bunch of "Tutu Power Yoohoo"
Come up on Cheri give her a little pinch and pass her She loves it once I'm by. She is doing well. Hummm where's Y.
We are doing OK Mike with his foot and me with my knee. Pier is boring since no spectators. Hit the last rest stop, walk a little then take it home.
We pass Y going the other way. She just starts shaking her head. Of course Mike and I start holding hands when we see her. She says she heard something was up as Ed ask her if I lost a bet and Ken just says " do you know what your husband is doing?" She was like " Oh great" .
Funny on a small course the news travels.
We come up on a guy doing the Oly and has about had it as he told his friend. We pass him and cheer in a little Mike says "you have to run now you just got passed by a guy in a tutu" I throw the tiara to Mike to wear across the finish line. Great Cheers from the 6 girls and from sister and gang. We hold hands crossing the line. Pictures you know.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing it was a great run considering the state of knee.
Bring a tutu for Mike.
Post race
Warm down:

Discuss the reason to wear a tutu to few girls that wanted to know why. Gave them the little story. they say that is great. Drank some water and walked to around to finish chute to cheer in Cheri and Y.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Weight as always.

Event comments:

Y did a good job coming in. Stood with Shirley and cheer her in with Mike and Kara. Go over to see how Laurie M did . She is like I should of known it was you. Her kids loved the guy in the tutu. Got some eats and wrangle a picnic table. We got room and guy sits down ask me if I wore it the whole race. I let him know I don't wear it in the swim since the drag is a little much. get some times and head to TA to collect bike and head home. good bye tutu till next week.
