Swim
Comments: I tried to really take it easy on the swim- to finish is to win. After the first bouy, I got boxed in by some slower swimmers and I used alot of energy trying to get around them. I relented and just tried to stay with them. On the second lap, my navigation skills turned bad. Three strokes and I was off course. MUST PRACTICE THIS!!!!! What would you do differently?: Once again, I need to practice my Open Water swimming. If I had been in the open, I would have gone a little faster. I ran with my wetsuit in hand and this was fine. (some left their suit on) Transition 1
Comments: I think my transition was good, even took a drink while there. What would you do differently?: None Bike
Comments: I need to figure out how to eat and drink during a race. I did not finish my first water bottle for the whole thing. Ate one gel. NOT ENOUGH and left me very depleted at about 1hr 20min. I hit a little wall. What would you do differently?: I need to eat and drink more. I used the same stuff that I use for training, but I can not stomach it during a race. Also I should have done some altitude mtn bike training. Transition 2
Comments: I thought the transition was efficient. Though I forgot to take my bike gloves off. Ran with them in my pocket. Run
Comments: My legs felt like lead on the run. I walked all of the hills and most of the mud bogs. My shoes were sucked off my feet twice. Had to stop to releive myslef too. I felt like I tanked on the run. I'll guess 15+ people ran by me. I tried some more gu, but mu guts were churning. I drank water at all of the aid stations. I was dry. Had gateraid at the last station and it tasted bad to me. What would you do differently?: I need to eat/drink more on the bike to leave me in better shape for the run. I did not expect the varied terrain. I need to train 2hr+ more often to learn how to keep my body going after the glycogen stores wear off. Altitude training. Lose weight - run lighter. But, I kept the mantra..."To finish is to Win" Post race
Warm down: None - drinks and relax with family, chase gabe around. What limited your ability to perform faster: As listed before, training and poor hydration and nutrition. Event comments: They did a great job hosting this race, it seemed well organized and it was a fun event for my family. Last updated: 2006-07-02 12:00 AM
