Swim
Comments: Started at the front in the middle of the start line. Pushed pretty hard. Crowded the whole race. Fair amount of bumping. Got a lung full of water being splashed during one breath. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Could train more - only got one, sometimes 2 swims/week. Transition 1
Comments: Long run to rack - hard time getting the wetsuit strap undone below the zipper. Stayed focused. What would you do differently?: Undo the zipper before taking off my cap/goggles/ear plugs. They were in my hand, which made the zipper tougher. Could run faster if not working on the zipper. Bike
Comments: Bit of a headache first several miles - due to hard swim. Felt strong the first half. Got passed around mile 5 by the fastest cyclist with another guy drafting right on him. I watched him draft for over a minute and finally yelled at him to stop - didn't. Kept it up, despite the lead guy trying to lose him, until they were finally out of sight. Confronted him afterward - others were irritated too and he placed near the top. Didn't feel as strong the second half. Wanted to push harder but conserved for the run. Happy with 23 MPH pace. What would you do differently?: Not think about the other riders until after the race. Transition 2
Comments: Was last spot on the rack on the far end - nice to have end spot, but worst for running (in bike shoes w/ bike). Did well considering. What would you do differently?: Request a different race number? :-) Run
Comments: Felt ok off the bike, good after mile one. That's when I passed the only other sprint racer that I was near during the whole run. Since the next guy ahead of me was way out of reach I didn't have much adrenaline kick in to push it to the extreme. Still pushed hard to the finish, but wasn't thrilled with my time. What would you do differently?: Train more. Post race
Warm down: Walk/stretch a bit. Water & chocolate milk. Talk w/ other racers. What limited your ability to perform faster: Run training was lacking a bit. Event comments: Love this race. Great organizers, volunteers, racers, course, post-race. They could improve it even more by marking the miles on the run course and having more race officials - there was illegal drafting in both the spring and olympic race and 3 lead swimmer skipped the final buoy in the olympic swim - I don't think there were any penalties. Up at 5:45. No food, just water. Got to Emmett around 7. First pick of spot in both transition areas. Previewed T1, T2 routes and swim course. Talked with friends & other racers. Pretty relaxed.
Stretched a little. Swam a little. Gu & water 10 minutes before.
