Swim
Comments: Water was very shallow, hands dragged on the mud during first 100-150m. All the times were very slow (no one under 10:00) so suspect the course could have been a bit longer than advertised. Also timing mat was placed after a 25-50m wade out. What would you do differently?: all things considered, not much. Attempt to draft a bit better. Transition 1
Comments: My transistions are generally only average and this was no exception. Gave up ~30 secs to 1st in my AG on this leg. Need to work on speeding this up. Also, watch got put on upside down. What would you do differently?: try having shoes clipped into the pedals, work on running start to the bike. Bike
Comments: Very tight U-turns made it difficult at both ends. The big hill has a blind approach on both sides, so can take you by surprise. During first encounter stayed in the big ring on the front and had to stand on the pedals to make it up. Shifted into the small ring on the other 3. Noticed speed dropped to 8 mph during at one point on the hill, though long break at 30+ afterward was appreciated. Again, overall average speeds were low which either points to the hill or a course which was slightly longer than advertised. What would you do differently?: Not much. More hill training? Most of my training is on relatively flat areas of town, having to shift under power while climbing was a new experience. Transition 2
Comments: A bit better than T1 but still not great. Dropped another 20 secs to the leader here. What would you do differently?: More urgency in getting the helmet off, shoes on. Otherwise, not much. Run
Comments: A little disappointing overall. Having run 2 min faster at the last race, I was expecting to perform better. The bike hills and then run hills combined with the heat must have taken their toll. What would you do differently?: Run faster, during the first mile particularly. My 2 and 3 mile splits were better, 7:30 and 7:15, but couldn't offset the poor first mile. Post race
Warm down: stood around and drank water. Ate a banana. Did some light stretching. What limited your ability to perform faster: Poor nutrition (Lara bar did not sit well), heat, and limited training over the last 2-3 weeks. Event comments: Overall, I am disappointed with the effort, but happy with the result. Only the second time I have placed in the past two seasons (I'll take it). Field size was limited which likely had a bit to do with it. Would have been nice to take an AG win, and given the field and overall performance, was likely within reach. Will have to push it a bit harder next time. Last updated: 2013-08-12 12:00 AM

Swam in lake for ~200m very easy. Walked around a bit.
