Total Time = 1h 11m 1s
Overall Rank = 91/188
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 2/11
Pre-race routine:

Drive frantically and scramble to find the course after realizing directions were missing a piece of info.
Event warmup:

Run to bathroom, get race packet, run to transition, find a spot on a rack where everyone's taken up too much space. Squeeze into wetsuit, run into water, splash face first in for a few strokes. Go.
Swim
  • 08m 12s
  • 440 yards
  • 01m 52s / 100 yards
Comments:

I was nervous at first, definitely breast-stroked longer than I needed to. Soon enough I got calm and swam FS. It helped seeing people next to me. i actually passed people.
What would you do differently?:

FS quicker. Swim faster.
Transition 1
  • 02m 51s
Comments:

Clicking sound right away. Worried about it. Didn't stop.
What would you do differently?:

Not put on gloves.
Bike
  • 31m 56s
  • 7 miles
  • 13.33 mile/hr
Comments:

Wish, of course, I'd gone faster. The hills surprised me. Didn't know the course. But what did I expect in Western PA? I pushed hard. I think last year I would've really tanked. The clicking sound lasted the entire ride and my bike computer didn't work. I had knocked the sensor off alignment. Ugh.
What would you do differently?:

Try not to brake downhill.
Transition 2
  • 01m 51s
Comments:

I think this transition went very smooth. I felt like I was in and out quick.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure. Felt good!
Run
  • 26m 13s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 32s  min/mile
Comments:

Thought I was pushing hard and running quick but was surprised at mile pace and decreases. Anyway, tried to stay consistent and run with good form.
What would you do differently?:

Start quicker or else work harder for negative splits.
Post race
Warm down:

Mostly walking.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Worry over the swim, tired from the bike. Arriving late perhaps meant a reduced warm-up time.

Event comments:

Very low-key local race with good support and good experienced crew. I wish they had done age-group markings on bodies, but frankly I don't think I could've caught first place. I liked getting a medal. The post-race food was very healthy, too. I didn't like the gravel under the transition area racks. That hurt my feet!!

Course: I felt it was hillier than I expected. Hills with turns at the bottom, hills that were steep and short and some that were longer and steeper. I did see people walking their bikes. I did not walk. I did get some quad ache. I ate and drank on the ride mostly to practice for future race.
