Pre-race routine:

I got up at 5:30 (slept really bad last night for some reason, about 5ish hours maybe). Had a bowl of oatmeal with raisins and brown sugar and a bananna. Took a travel cup of coffee and left the house at 6am. Arrived around 6:20, almost no one there, eventhough registration started at 6. After registering, had lots of time, so went back to car and listened to some music.

Weather was nice an sunny, and very humid. Humidity at 78%, a little breeze, but not much.
Event warmup:

About 30 minutes to start, hit the restroom, did some light stretching, did about a 5 minute jog, some more stretching, then some sprints. Hit the restroom one more time, took a GU and finished off a bottle of water, then off to the start line. Had a pretty good sweat going at this time, very humid.

Comments:

The goal in the back of my head was under 50 minutes. At the start I thought it was possible since I did not plan on going out as fast as I did, but I felt good. Once I got to the hills and the humidity really took its toll, I kind of put it in my head I would not make it. Who knows if I could have or not, but probably more mental than physical. However, 2 plus minutes, I am not sure. Was a pretty good near all out run. Overall happy with the run since not planned for.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really. More training, speedwork, hill work. Maybe not talked myself out of 50 minutes.

Warm down:

Ate and drank the free stuff, walked around, nothing special. Some light stretching once I got home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I am just not that fast :)

Event comments:

Great job by the staff. Efficient, organized, fun. Maybe some Gatorade instead of water and Capri-Sun, but that is about it.

Course: Nice course, never have running it, did not know what to expect. Starts in downtown Barrington and the first 3 miles is pretty much flat to slight downhill. Miles 3-5 are through woody areas with rolling hills. So much for that strategy of going out easy and picking it up. The last mile or so is back into town.
