Run
Comments: Thought my race was over before it barely started. I absolutely couldn't make my legs move up that service road. I walked for about 20 seconds, but the few people that passed me weren't going much faster so I figured if I could recover and get on the bike, I might find my legs. Really suffered getting into T1. The fact that I've been running more was really a punch in the gut with this effort. What would you do differently?: No idea what went wrong. Transition 1
Comments: Had to try a couple times for my left foot to hit the top of the shoe. And then had an issue getting my foot in smoothly. I rarely get passed coming out of T1, even in the elite wave. Three passed me and I think they were all from wave 2. Not a good sign. Bike
Comments: Three relay bikers had better times. One by a few seconds, one by about 1 minute, and the last by the best bike split of the day 2:39 ahead. Found my legs about 5 miles in. Tried to stay in the 12T for the majority of the flats. One fella passed me and then stalled so I had to coast to back up before re-passing. Did it twice more. The last time he gapped me big time. With about 5 miles left, he was out there close to 1/2 mile ahead. I was a bit surprised. I just kept a consistent effort and wound up catching him at the line. We both ran into T2 side by side. Transition 2
Comments: I had two shirts on...starting running and decided to strip one off so stupidly lost about 5-10 seconds getting back in front of my bike to throw my UA down. Didn't realize I had a sleeveless under my bibs, so I looked like a goof coming out of T2. Run
Comments: Felt much better but the bike took some toll and now I had to run up those switchbacks. I didn't want to look up. Its way up there. There was a guy in front of me and a guy in back of me. I was being caught but I was also catching up to the guy in front of me. After finally reaching the top, I knew it was only another 1/2 mile to go. Passed the guy that came into T2 with me but got passed by a couple runners coming down the stretch. Post race
Warm down: Zippo. Ate a bunch afterwards as I waited for my friend to finish. Event comments: Lots of volunteers so that was great. To climb out of a mental hole and recover for the AG win and 2nd in Masters was a big boost for me. I literally thought the first run was going to DNF me. Pretty sad mental state, especially after working on my running so much lately. Back to the drawing board. Last updated: 2013-08-22 12:00 AM
