Comments: This was a tough ride for me. I suffered on the second loop. Used a 12-25, yet didn't use the 12T as much as I would've predicted beforehand. The start was on your own...had to click in after "go." I wasn't prepared for that. Had lots of racers that were on their 2nd loop as I started so was able to pick many off and stay focused. Having a later start hurt a bit because the wind picked up substantially the last 1/4 of the race. But it came down to me not being able to compete. Put out 296 average watts of power so was pleased there but some of these guys are beasts. No way to verify but I heard the overall winner at age 56 averaged 370 watts! Beat me by 6+ minutes. I can do that for 5 miles, not 25. Again, not competitive as a TT'er. As a triathlete or duathlete, I'm a strong biker. Big difference there. Note: Need to change my FTP so other stats are accurate like IF, TSS, and VI. What would you do differently?: Need to get so much stronger in my legs. Guys going 28 mph spin the 11's and 12's at a high cadence. I was pleased with the power numbers but that might have been bumped by the headwinds. Post race
Warm down: Rode only a short distance before heading back to the car. I needed electrolytes. What limited your ability to perform faster: Rode poorly into the winds. Event comments: TT's are typically race and leave so post race activities really don't exist around here. But I didn't see any podium photos, etc. Bare bones but run nicely. Results came in quickly. Breakfast and car ride to race site...40 minutes away.
15 minutes on the trainer + 15 minute on the road. Gearing was super smooth. No hard efforts pre-race. Tested a 5 spoke tubular yesterday and may have used up some energy. Not smart.
