Swim
Comments: I have been doing masters swimming for about 3 months and it payed off. I beat my previous PR, which was in colder water with a wet-suit! I felt great the entire time. Everything clicked for me from start to finish. I had a hard time getting to the front of the wave, which was annoying because I ended up swimming over most of them. What would you do differently?: Force myself to the front. Transition 1
Comments: Seeing my watch and knowing I beat my goal and PR set the tone of the day for me. Then, when I saw my teammate and training partner leaving T1 right when I got there was another vote of confidence! I forgot the rubber band, but things still went well. What would you do differently?: Remember a rubber band for my bike shoes Bike
Comments: This was a good bike for me. I felt good coming out of T1 and was able to quickly get into a rhythm. I drank 4-5 ounces every 3 miles which is how i have been training. Felt like I had a good bike. No issues going uphill, and got up to 40 mph going down hill. I didn't get passed by anyone until mile 9. Had 3 scoops of perpetuem mixed in 32 ounces of water and had 12 ounces of plain water. I froze 12 oz of the perpetuem and all of the water. Could have frozen more, as it started cold and ended warm. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Transition 2
Comments: Easy transition. Not much to comment on. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: I felt really good coming out of T2 so I just ran, for an extended period of time (Anchorman reference). I felt pretty good and quickly had my legs underneath me. I knew that I was going to push my HR to its limit and I would fall off of pace at some point, but I held longer than planned. The website said hammer gels would be on the course, but I never found them. This threw my nutrition off a bit but it didn't kill me. At mile 5 I walked through 2 aid stations and then pushed it again. Managed to run the last little portion with a pace of 6:00 min/mile and a HR of 187 bpm What would you do differently?: Bring nutrition with me. Post race
Warm down: Drank a coke and felt great. First time in a while I didn't have stomach issues What limited your ability to perform faster: Honestly, I was thrilled with my performance. Event comments: I will do this again. It was a smaller race but well put on. Last updated: 2013-08-25 12:00 AM
