Swim
What would you do differently?: Get in the pool, more than once in four months. Transition 1
Comments: Not speedy, just making sure I didn't forget anything. Bike
Comments: Yep, the rumors were correct. This was a hilly course. I definitely had to get out of the saddle a couple of times. But I tackled the hills pretty well and managed to pass many people on them, which is a new thing for me. Haven't really been on my tri bike much this summer, twice for two races. So I was a little shaky, especially on the fast downhills. But roads were pretty smooth and I love an out-and-back course, so this was great. What would you do differently?: More practice on Lady Bird. Felt a little shaky on the downhills. Transition 2
Run
Comments: It was heating up out there (79°) and I did push it on the hills, so I just wanted to get through this run comfortably. The person that I was leap frogging with throughout the race, passed me during transition. So I thought there was no way I could catch up. But I managed to after a mile in. Held back a bit for the second mile since I knew I had a bit of a short steep hill in the last mile. But I picked up the pace for mile 3 and finished strong. What would you do differently?: More speed training. Post race
Warm down: Walked around, drank Recoverite right away. Had a sausage a little while later. What limited your ability to perform faster: I'm training for a marathon right now, not a tri. Did this just for fun, and it was so much fun. I loved it. Bonus fun when I found out I placed second in my age group. Event comments: Unique race, worth doing it for sure. Hills keeps things challenging. Last updated: 2013-08-26 12:00 AM

Bill wanted to join me at the race, so I had a driver today! We stopped at Starbucks on the drive down. I got a sm chai and oatmeal and banana too.
No warmup. Just sipping water, and took a gel 15 minutes before the start.
