Swim
Comments: I had "Thought" about taking off my suit in the water - Since I had not practiced that, I'm glad that I decided not to. Was easier for me to get out and run. Had a guy next to me doing the backstroke for some of the return swim. I got slapped a few times. I found myself surrounded or next to someone else MOST of this swim, which has not happened before. What would you do differently?: I might take a wider turn and space myself out a little better. Let THEM move, and hold my ground a little better during the swim. Transition 1
Comments: I wish I would have remembered the baby powder for my shoes.. I had some minor trouble getting into the shoes, but it took me a long while to get my fingers warm enough to operate the dial on my shoes to tighten them to my liking.. What would you do differently?: BabyPowder in the shoes. I might get the shoes tight at the cost of going slow, instead of coasting for a longer distance and making three attempts to get the shoes tight enough. Bike
Comments: Shifting is still an issue with me. Without Aero shifters, I need to come out to the hoods each time to shift. It's uncomfortable and the bike twitches. I would do better on a bigger bike. The 58 should be a ~63 What would you do differently?: I would have forgotten to drink had my wife not shouted to remind me.. Even so, I discovered that I swallowed a bunch of air while I drank - Burped a BUNCH during the first mile of the run. Transition 2
Comments: It all felt very smooth. What would you do differently?: My father captured some great video of my T1 and T2. Looks like I fumbled a bit with my race belt/number. Guess I need more practice with that. Looks like it takes me a while to get my socks on, but that's just what it takes. Felt really good. I could learn to run without socks, but that might take a while to build up callouses. Run
Comments: I started off at a good pace that allowed me to get my legs back under me. I typically get passed during the run and bike, and I don't recall any or more than 1 person, passing me on the run. Felt good!! What would you do differently?: Passing the cemetary, I waved to my Grandparents grave stone - visible from the road. An action I thought would give me strength, but instead started to chock-me-up a bit. I had to put that out of my mind quickly, and planned to visit their site a following day. : ) Post race
Warm down: Considered going down to the water for a dunk.. I ended up standing - finding my folks - and cheering for some of the other competitors. Next time, I might just take a quick dip in the water to cool down. What limited your ability to perform faster: On the Swim - I was dodging people. On the Bike - I was doing so well that I might have only been limited by shifting and by the bike. Run - I was doing great. More training might have helped, but I felt SO much more in control than I have at any previous race. Event comments: Course and conditions were Amazing. Volunteer help and the assistance by the local Police was AMAZING! I was a little confused by the maps, and had some conflicting information for the run. The most annoying thing was that the SPRINT bike was at one point described differently on the website. It was straight out to the State Park and back. Myself (and a few others) had interpreted the Sprint bike route a little differently. E-mail blasts from organizer need proofreading. I attended the 101 clinic by Einstein Cycles and thought it was EXCELLENT! Fun, Informative, and I could tell it answered a lot of questions for the new competitors - and even clarified some things for me too! (Glad I went!) Volunteers took down the transition area quickly and there was a great showing from Team Maddy. I raced well, and hope to make this race next year as well. Last updated: 2013-08-26 12:00 AM

Had some Oatmeal, Banana, water.
Got to the Transition area early to make sure everything was in order, my tires were pumped up, and I knew where to go.
Bike warmup out to the bridge and back. Saw a Doe and two fawns.. :)
Light run warmup, and waited until about 10 min before the swim to do any swim warmup. Water was Brisk/chilly, so wanted to acclimate without getting too cold.
