Run
Comments: Running with this number of runners was just crazy. The first mile or so was just spent dodging through the mob, with it finally thinning out a bit as we passed the "Welcome to Vegas" sign after the first turn around (1.5 miles). At the mile 5 aid station I lost track of my running buddy as she stopped to fill her water bottle, as she was over heating and needed a dunk. I tried to slow and look back for her but the crowed was still too thick and there was no sign of her. By mile 8 I was in a fairly good groove however I felt the tell-tale signs of a blister forming on my left food. First time I've had one on a long run and I think it may have been caused by water I poured on my head going down my leg and getting into my shoe/sock, causing a friction point. After the turn around my legs were complaining and my foot was not happy at all due to the blister. Slowly the wedding chapels gave way to the casinos and I was back on the Strip proper. The Belagio fountains danced above the finish line and I pushed myself to keep going despite the pain. What would you do differently?: No blister! Pour less water on my head when I don't really need it. Post race
Warm down: Wandered through the near half-mile finish "village": first medal, then water, gatorade, power bar, chocolate mile. Found a spot to stretch my legs. After about half an hour of trying to find my other running friends I walked back to the hotel. What limited your ability to perform faster: Blister on my foot, not doing any training runs in the 2 weeks leading up to race due to other leg issues. Event comments: Very unique experience to run down the Vegas strip with 30,000 other runners. Last updated: 2013-08-26 12:00 AM
