Pre-race routine:

Breakfast and drive to race. Didn't sleep hardly at all.
Event warmup:

Run in place, stretch, and swam a few hundred yards.
Swim
  • 11m 37s
  • 500 yards
  • 02m 19s / 100 yards
Comments:

Did not feel fast. Breathing and such was alright Just felt very weak and tired. Tried to draft, but kept running into the feet of the one in front.
What would you do differently?:

Get more sleep.
Transition 1
  • 02m
Comments:

Very slow. I was concerned about the weather being so cold, so I brought socks, a jacket gloves and a sock hat. putting all these things on cost me.
What would you do differently?:

Be less intimidated by the weather. I could have toughed it out.
Bike
  • 52m 19s
  • 16.6 miles
  • 19.04 mile/hr
Comments:

By this time I'm just going for the complete. Might as well enjoy the race because I don't have the stamina or legs to get any decent time.
What would you do differently?:

I guess I need to take my preparation more serious. I had too much work leading up to the race and with the training, I was drained.
Transition 2
  • 01m 20s
Comments:

Just removing all the equipment slowed me a little.
Run
  • 32m 29s
  • 3.75 miles
  • 08m 40s  min/mile
Comments:

This was comical. I was clear at the front of the transition area. I take off on the run, which is a good distance to the timing mat to get started. As soon as I crossed the mat I realized I had forgotten my bib. I ran back to get it on the outside of the transition area, then hit the course. So the time is actually good when you take this into account. I started slow, talking to a guy as I ran but then Lawrence K. slapped me on the back as he passed me. Then I decided to speed up. I beat him at Kendallville, as he finished right on my heels. He beat me by 3 minutes this race. I also had some cramping quads. I think it was from not drinking enough.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing at this time. I was just having fun. I will be in better shape to race next time. Last year my finish time was six minutes faster than this year's time. :-(
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and talked with other athletes. Stretched a little when I remembered.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Fatigue.

Event comments:

Always enjoy the MMT even when I don't have a good day. Had a low participation count this year.
