Run
Comments: My pace was a tad bit slower then my typical 5k pace (7:40). Race day was very humid, which I think may have held me back on the first run. I thought the course was advertised as 2 miles, when in reality it was 2.25 miles What would you do differently?: Pay attention to the course description!! Transition 1
Comments: I opted to use my SPD adapters, which essentially is a flat "snap in" platform, instead of my clipless pedals and shoes. This saved me a tremendous amount of time in T1. I had the third fastest T1 time overall Pros: no time wasted in T1 trying to wedge shoes on Cons: Definately a loss of power transfer What would you do differently?: Practice T1 with my clipless pedals and shoes. I would like to use them on my next event Bike
Comments: I felt great on the bike. The bike is my strongest portion of the race because I come from a long mountain bike racing background. My posted average (20.6) is much slower then I had expected, given that I had some stronge bike workouts the weeks prior. I think I suffered from a power transfer loss using my running shoes and flat pedals instead of my clipless pedals I did manage to pass a few people who had passed me on the first run What would you do differently?: As mentioned above, I used my running shoes on the bike in lieu of my clipless pedals and shoes. I would like to use them in my next race, but this will take some practice on my part to minimize loosing time in T1 Transition 2
Comments: I had the 2nd fastest T2 time overall. I had sme issues racking the bike but it was minor What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: I didnt get into a good stride until I was past the first mile. I was actually surprised by my performance given the fact that the two bricks I had completed in the two weeks prior to the race were awful. What would you do differently?: More bricks! More speedwork. Post race
Warm down: Walked around, drank lots of water (very humid) and ate some PB with bread, bananas during the awards ceremony What limited your ability to perform faster: 1. Humidity. I hadnt done any training in humid conditions 2. Cycling with flat shoes in lieu of clipless pedals 3. Not enough speedwork in the weeks prior to the race 4. Not enough quality brick workouts prior to the race Event comments: Very well organized, tons of course marshalls out on the road to keep us out of harms way; nice awards ceremony, lots of food and water post race. The duathletes had their own transition area which was a welcome change. Last updated: 2006-07-03 12:00 AM

I woke 75:30 a.m.I arrived at the venue at 6:30 a.m. After picking up my race packet, I setup my transition spot. At approximately 7:00 a.m. I took the bike out on the course for a 3 mile warmup. At around 7:15 I took two (2) gels (one Hammer gel, one Powerbar brand).
At 7:45 I began stretching, immediately followed by a quick three minute run.
During the entire time, from the minute I left the house until the start time, I was sipping a bottle of HEED and water mixed per the manufacturers recommendations.
