Overall Rank = 47/305

Age Group Rank = 6/24
Pre-race routine:

Oatmeal & Cappuccino at 5:45 AM

Event warmup:

Cycled 4 miles on bike course
Swam for 2 minutes.
-no running warmup since still have plantar fasciitis in left foot
Swim
  • 08m 38s
  • 440 yards
  • 01m 58s / 100 yards
Comments:

Started on the right side to be clear of people since there was a left hand turn near the end of the course. Had a good start in terms of pace. but I think I lost some momentum with the large number of people around me. Lots of contact with other people that put my mind off. Felt tired after the initial good start.
What would you do differently?:

Need more open water swim practice. I still don't know how fast I should go in the swim based on my training. Isn't there a guide based on what you do in the pool?
Transition 1
  • 02m 22s
Comments:

Transition was reasonable, but I didn't need to put on cycle jersey.
What would you do differently?:

One of these days I will try no socks.
Bike
  • 30m 35s
  • 11 miles
  • 21.58 mile/hr
Comments:

This was my fastest cycle speed in a triathlon. My goal was to get a good bicycle and swim split. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/368263456
What would you do differently?:

Need to increase cycle speed
Transition 2
  • 01m 39s
Run
  • 23m 4s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 26s  min/mile
Comments:

I used my "Chi running style" - fast cadence and mid foot strike to avoid hitting heel. This worked fine. I did ease up some and didn't push the run as hard as I should have because I didn't want to add more damage to the plantar fasciitis. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/368263473

What would you do differently?:

I should have pushed the run faster, since this was a slow split for me, but I have only run 3 times in August and 4 times in July (2 to 3 miles each time). So I was basically running on my fitness from cycling and swimming.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Swim is still the slowest, bike was better but would like to increase the speed. The strange thing (which is good) is that even though I haven't trained for the run I kept a good level of fitness to have the highest rank of the 3 sports.

Event comments:

This was a well run race.
