Overall Rank = 25/107
Age Group = M50-54
Age Group Rank = 3/10
Event warmup:

Swim in the lake warm up, about 200m, makes a big difference being able to warm up on the swim
Swim
  • 20m 39s
  • 1056 meters
  • 01m 58s / 100 meters
Comments:

Overall good swim, took a foot in the head early on but got into a good pace, was pretty confident - never felt stressed, kept on goal pace, easy sighting since buoys were to the right, swim interval training has been helping, only issue was running up the muddy hill exiting swim, slipped on mud, needs a better exit area
Transition 1
  • 01m 2s
Comments:

good transition, no issues
Bike
  • 2h 02m 5s
  • 39 miles
  • 19.17 mile/hr
Comments:

Not bad overall but underestimated challenge of hills on this course, went out pretty hard and thought I had a great pace, off goal pace by 7 minutes, longer bike ride had negative impact on legs for run even after brick training,
What would you do differently?:

to train for this race need more work on hills, most of training had been relatively flat courses,
Transition 2
  • 00m 46s
Comments:

good transition after long ride
Run
  • 53m 42s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 08m 40s  min/mile
Comments:

biggest disappointment of the race, expected to be on 7:45 pace for run after prior runs and triathlons. Two big mistakes, went out hard on the bike and did not realize the run had two large hills which impacted pace (and some cramping), worst mistake: missed a turn off on the course and ran .36 miles extra adding several minutes to my time, really bad mental lapse from not walking the whole course before race and not paying attention
What would you do differently?:

train more on hills, more running on tired legs and most important: know the entire course and pay attention
Post race
Warm down:

got some food, waited around for awards, even with issues got a 3rd place in AG

What limited your ability to perform faster:

better run conditioning off long bike rides

Event comments:

this is a small local race but I really thought it was well done, on-time, organized, course could have been a little better marked at spots, I'd do this again - great first Olympic Plus distance race for me with a relaxed community atmosphere
