Swim
Comments: The swim was going great until I got caught up in some strong currents near the last turn buoy. The current started to sweep me past the channel marker/buoy on the wrong side. I had to fight to get back around last buoy. What would you do differently?: Continue to work on OWS skills Transition 1
Comments: T1 took a little longer than normal because my wetsuit got caught on my heels. Also, I needed some additional time to get all the grass off my feet. What would you do differently?: Practice stripping off my wetsuit. Apply additional body glide around ankles. Bike
Comments: Little bit of a wind/headwind to contend with on the course. I did not ride to my potential due to a bike computer issue. My goal race pace was 17 mph. My cat's eye was reading 17-19 mph, so I didn't push the pace any harder. I was disappointed to see my bike split and that my avg pace was only 16 mph. Overall, I felt good on the ride, and I stayed focused. Nutrition and hydration were right on. The only negative comment that I have is I didn't care for the dump trucks and the tractor trailers whizzing by me at 55-60 mph on John Tyler Hwy. What would you do differently?: Get a better bike computer!!! Transition 2
What would you do differently?: Practice transitions Run
Comments: The run went great for the first 9 miles, and I was able to maintain my goal race pace of 10:30 - 10:40 min/mi. Then, my IT band became "unhappy" and I developed right knee pain. From that point on, my run went down hill. I ended up walking and running for the last 4.1 miles. What would you do differently?: Incorporate some trail running into my training. Post race
Event comments: Overall, I had a great race. Even with a few mishaps, I set a new PR for this distance. Last updated: 2013-09-09 12:00 AM

Drove up to Williamsburg on Friday. Arrived around 11 a.m. After I checked into the hotel, I headed to the race site to check the water conditions. Later that afternoon, I went to packet pick up. Pre-race dinner consisted of pancakes and eggs.
On race morning, I woke up at 3:30 a.m. Around 4:00 a.m., I ate a bagel with peanut butter on it, and I drank a bottle of water. Got dressed and loaded my tri bag and bike into the car.
I arrived to the transition area around 5:00 a.m. and I set up my transition area. Picked up my chip and got body marked.
Air temp was 63 and the water temp was 77.3F. I put on my wetsuit and walked down to the swim start. I got in the water and warmed up for about 10 minutes.
