Pre-race routine:

Up a 6 after a night of too much eating and drinking. Had a little left over apple pie and threw bike in the truck. Drank a little stale coffee on the way there. Set up. Mike got there and gave him an Old Fart Jersey so we would match but a little different color scheme so we wouldn't look to nerdy.
Event warmup:

Walk around a bit and peed twice.
Run

Comments:

I've done three trail runs and fell down on 2 of them so speed was not going to be in play. Started out well after making sure there were some people behind us that knew CPR. Lots of good steep up and downs, some mud and just little road running. Did well through the roots and mud. Walked the hill which were really drop offs the wrong way. Mike and I were doing this together. HE went up a little to make sure he could get into his shoes. My back that was aching pretty good Friday was on the verge of kicking up the whole way. Most the bikes were gone when we got there and Mike was waiting with his gut hanging out of his Old Fart jersey.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster to get it over with sooner.

Comments:

Hard not to draft off of Mikes cute ass. Got her going well. Had to watch out for all the black walnuts. Mike was out front for the whole thing. Caught him once and got to call him Old Fart. Nice ride in and felt good back was OK and left lower leg had settled down a little.
What would you do differently?:

Electric bike.
Transition 2
  • 01m 27s
Comments:

While I was waiting for Mike I did a few lumbar extension to settle back. Walked out since Mike wasn't sure of his foot, but his shoulder was OK.
What would you do differently?:

Have a beer.

Comments:

This was going to be slower. Walked a smidge to see how the parts were for both of us. Started on the first down hill and ran to first rest stop and walked the stop. Ran to next hill. Passed a gentleman the was speed walking, some how. He told us we weren't old farts, he was an old fart at 70. Ok ya got us there. Came in together. Poor announcer would not say Fart for she announced the old flatulence club was finishing. Nice cover. then the wife of the 70 y/o fart;s wife told us we weren't old farts either. Like a Dan Fogelberg song it started to rain.
What would you do differently?:

Stay in bed and hope Mike would blew the race off too.
Post race
Warm down:

Drink some water. Walk to food.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Actually training like an old fart.

Event comments:

We were first at something. Yep first in line for cheeseburgers and root beer. Oh well got a little beer. Yes we were first through. Good eats. Nice race and since Mike will be out for a few months it was good to race together.
