Total Time = 1h 56m 44s
Overall Rank = 45/64
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 6/6
Pre-race routine:

Protein shake with berries, cream, and Elete electrolyte drops 2 hours before start. Drank water with the Elete electrolyte drops up until race time.
Event warmup:

A little jogging.
Swim
  • 09m 45s
  • 575 yards
  • 01m 42s / 100 yards
Comments:

The swim was off a nice beach in a small park on the Hudson River. Not sure how accurate the distance was because I think I am a slower swimmer than this. I like swimming with the wetsuit (this was only the second time, the first time was in my first tri last month). It feels like I glide better between strokes so I expend less energy on the swim.I went a little too wide on the last leg.
What would you do differently?:

Navigate better
Transition 1
  • 03m
Comments:

This time is a guess because no splits were provided for the transitions, and I didn't use a watch. I always feel a little dizzy after I get out of the water. I'm not sure why.
Bike
  • 1h 08m 41s
  • 18 miles
  • 15.72 mile/hr
Comments:

I liked this course with the mix of hills, and not so hilly spots.I felt good going uphill and actually passed some people fairly easily, but then I lose time and get passed going downhill, because I'm just not confident enough yet. I still get nervous going much faster than 30 MPH. The Local and State Police, and Volunteer Fire Departments did a great job with traffic control.
What would you do differently?:

I could have pushed myself more, but I was thinking about that steep hill at the beginning of the run, so I held back a little. I really really need to ride LOTS more, and build up my confidence.
Transition 2
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

This time is also a guess, but I felt very fast in this transition.
Run
  • 33m 54s
  • 3.5 miles
  • 09m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

My legs felt great getting off the bike. I think that may be because I've been adding the Elete electrolyte drops to my water the past couple of weeks, which has helped me avoid the little bit of cramping I sometimes get in my calves. According to Gmaps, there were 3 climbs of over 125 feet, so it was a fairly challenging run. A few people with me at the BOP walked the hills, but I had no trouble running them, and even passed a couple people going up the hills. Overall, I was pretty slow though, about 1:15 per mile off of my typical 5K pace.
What would you do differently?:

I could have pushed myself harder, especially up the hills, because my legs felt strong, and I had gas left in the tank at the finish.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, drank lots of water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training, lack of experience with pacing myself, and I am generallly pretty slow.

Event comments:

This is my second Tri and I had a great time. I really need to push myself harder because I didn't "leave it all out on the course". I suppose being last in my age group is a little disappointing, but overall, I am pleased with my performance. I also won an Amino Vital nylon bag and water bottle in the raffle. Unfortunately the water bottle also has a Yankees logo on it, and I'm a Mets fan, so I have to give it away.

This race was a lot of fun, and I can't wait until my next race!
