Pre-race routine:

Get up 4:30 drive to Staples park , get bus to Venice Beach , Set up transition , relax , eat bap with PBJ , drink little water , enjoy people watching , Go watch the pros swim and transition to get pumped up . It worked .
Reviews ins and out of transition area to get familiar, Good idea as It took me a few times to find my bike easily.
Event warmup:

Swim a little and check out the strong surf do maybe 20 strokes , Helped me relax. Biggish Waves looked bad but diving under was no problem. Water was pretty smooth after that. WTF Resting heart rate 90 ! That's pre race excitement for you.
Swim
  • 16m 23s
  • 704 yards
  • 02m 20s / 100 yards
Comments:

Could have ran to the water a little faster, First sea race wearing my wetsuit and swimming freestyle , I have done all my previous events in breastroke which is great for sighting , and it went quite well. I was not any faster but I think that will come with time. I was overall pleased with my swim. Sighting was easier in the wetsuit as lifting my head out of the water was easier. Used breastroke around the crowded Buoy 1 .
What would you do differently?:

Try not wearing my bike top under the wetsuit. Work on my kick in the wetsuit. So I get a bit of propulsion from the rear.
Transition 1
  • 02m 43s
Comments:

Good transition , Had to pack up back as it is shipped to the finish after athletes leave T1 so took an extra 20 sec to cram my wetsuit and towel in and zip up the bag.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 1h 05m 15s
  • 20 miles
  • 18.39 mile/hr
Comments:

Attacked all hills with 90 rpm cadence and a lot of shifter work.
This is where I do best . Passed 100's got passed maybe a dozen times.
Love PAssing Disney Tri Team!
Spent a little time out of the saddle to stay loose. Used aerobars in the flats and downhills, used drops in the false flats (looks flat but is uphill) and got right up and ate and drank during the climb on Fairfax and Highland
and near disney concert Hall. Nice Hill but I was ready for it so It was fine. Got the bike up to 42 mph on the way down Grand . Woohoo!

Seems like there was a good head wind everytime we were facing east.
What would you do differently?:

Keep training in the hills and do longer rides Than the races I enter. loose more weight :)
Transition 2
  • 03m 51s
Comments:

Good transition , unfortunetaly Sprints have a very long way to go into the T2 area to drop our bikes . Being fast on bike means shoes in T2 are easy to find and rack is pretty much empty. Saves Time. :)
Its a good 300m if not more to run in bike shoes and to get out also to the run .
Made a quick pit stop at The john's so time was pretty good (faster Than Last year)
What would you do differently?:

Run faster !
Run
  • 28m 41s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 13s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt like the end of a long run at 9 min /pace .
walked the steeper parts of the hill, HR stayed the same , lost maybe 10 yards on runners In front of me . started running as the slope got flat again
and ran all the way home. Using water on my head and arms to cool off.
What would you do differently?:

It was a good effort , I was not sore comming off the bike like last year and so ran as good as i do in my long runs (9min/mile )
Post race
Warm down:

Walk , eat fruit , drink water , Checked the results , saw I placed , waited long time for medals , saw they ran out of them :( and was finally told to come up and get picture taken , and that medals would be mailed home.
Should have lined up for a massage instead !

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing

Event comments:

Nice Race , Pricey , It should have more food at the end like pizza or bagels or PBJ's . Also should have gatorade available.
They had fruit , spicey chips and water, All welcome.

I was in the water for around 15 minutes and had 90+ sec run on the beach and on the bike path , to T1 where the chip map are HR was kind of high from the excitement , Started to relax after first buoy.
Suit: Yes
Course: L shape with in and out too near each other , some waves going out had to negotiate swimmers coming in , Some big breakers on earlier waves but not one during my wave so I got off smoothly. Water was pretty calm after that. Some current which slowed the swim to Buoy 2 but sped us to Buoy3 .
