Swim
Comments: I've definitely improved since last year...swimming faster and straighter. I tried drafting off a girl ahead of me--can't tell if it helped or not, though I didn't feel like I was ever working too hard. My mask kept filling with water, which meant I had to keep stopping to clear it. Transition 1
Comments: pretty good transition. I'm always dizzy getting out of the water, so getting my suit off and shoes on is a challenge. Bike
Comments: I was pleased with my ride--I was aiming for 40 minutes, so came fairly close. I felt strong in the hills, a testament to the benefits of actually practicing them during my rides! Transition 2
Comments: had trouble getting my shoes on--my feet were so cold coming off the bike, plus still wet--so I couldn't get them on, then when they were on they were wonky and I had to take time to get myself straightened out before taking off. Run
Comments: All in all, a good run. I think my first mile was at about a 7 minute pace, which was probably too fast, but again I'm happy with my time--it's the best I've ever run coming off the bike. Post race
Warm down: None, except for talking with friends and plotting our escape to the Brown Bag Cafe for a post-race feast. Event comments: I'm thrilled. Last year, my time was 1:39 and change, so I've improved in a big way. Next year I'll be lucky to shave off a minute or two, but we'll see! All in all, a big success. The usual: oatmeal, orange juice, coffee, and too much water for my own good. Thus, multiple trips to the bathroom.
A stretch or two, and struggling into a wetsuit--that alone is a workout!
