Swim
Comments: Excellent conditions for my first open water tri swim. The sound was almost like glass. No chope or waves to speak of. Water was fairly clear. What would you do differently?: Really, really need to work on the swim. Need to be able to do the whole swim in freestyle. Also, need to work on sighting and swimming on a straight line. Often found I was angling towards shore rather than swimming parallel when I was swimming freestyle. Transition 1
Comments: Not a bad first transition. I really did not do anything drastically wrong. It did not take that much time to get out of the wetsuit. It got caught a little on one heel. My transition area was set up good. Took time to have a drink of fresh water and some gel. Probably could forgo that. Took time to put on socks. Spent a bit of time messing with the socks. What would you do differently?: Move a bit quicker. Learn to set up shoes in bike so I could run faster with the bike to the mount area. Learn to cycle and run without socks. Bike
Comments: Really nice bike course. Made up time from the swim in the bike. Definitely room for improvement but overall a solid ride. What would you do differently?: Learn to run with bike and have my shoes in the pedals. Push a bit more in the cornering. Transition 2
Comments: T2 was much better. My abs cramped a bit when I bent over. Perhaps I need a bit more fluid on the bike. I took time to have a drink of plain water and some gel. What would you do differently?: Consider drinking plain water and having some gel on the bike prior to T2. Do alot more crunches so I am adjusted to longer periods in the aero position. Run
Comments: Good flat run. Faster than anticipated considering the first mile is typically not great for me off the bike. What would you do differently?: Not much. Work on gaining speed. Work on learning to hydrate while I run. Post race
Warm down: Stretch legs. What limited your ability to perform faster: Although I have room for improvement in all of the disciplines, the swim and the transitions, T1 in particular, are areas that I need to improve upon. Event comments: This was an excellent experience for first race. Great course, very well organized, very friendly, very well marked. The course is largely flat and fast. We lucked out on the swim as the sound was smooth and the visibility was great. This is a race I will definitely do again. It was really enjoyable! Last updated: 2006-07-06 12:00 AM
