Pre-race routine:

Drove up from Indy on race day, signage all the way from US 31 to the park. Much closer than I thought. Packet pickup was super-organized. Great parking nearby with change rooms, convenience store, & warm shower.
Event warmup:

Had a flat that was fixed onsite. The bike mech also worked on my deraileur when he noticed it was a little off. This is a reflection on the specialness of this race.
Swim
  • 13m 28s
  • 500 yards
  • 02m 41s / 100 yards
Comments:

I could not believe how warm the water was. No wetsuit necessary. They did a nice job with the waves, it wasn't crowded but there were plenty of racers in the water.
What would you do differently?:

Swim in tri-top.
Transition 1
  • 01m 48s
Comments:

Putting on a tri-top when you are wet is not easy. Should have swam in it but wanted to stay dry. A little bit of a run (150m) from the water to transition.
What would you do differently?:

Swim in top.
Bike
  • 50m 50s
  • 16.6 miles
  • 19.59 mile/hr
Comments:

Some very uncool riding by experienced folks, very suprising considering everything else.
What would you do differently?:

Verbalize my displeasure when some passes me and then immediately slows down. I someone know but it was at the end of the ride after he cut underneath me on a tight turn.

The hills were enough to slow me down. I need to train more on mulitple small & medium hills for races like this and Grand Rapids.
Transition 2
  • 01m 17s
Comments:

Got a little off on my way out of the corral.
What would you do differently?:

Be less concerned about othe racers and focus on my transition.
Run
  • 33m 10s
  • 3.75 miles
  • 08m 50s  min/mile
Comments:

Tried to kick it in for the last 1/2 mile but I had nothing left.
What would you do differently?:

Relatively happy with this run.
Post race
Warm down:

Pretty good post-race food. Race director stopped by to talk.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Felt like I left time (5+ minutes) on the ride. Challenging race due to distance.

Event comments:

Amazed that a state park can host such a great event (better than 3D, Tux Bros, or Planet Adventure IMHO). Super organized, lots of little touches, and cheerful/helpful volunteers & staff.

If you are in Indy, Muncie, Kokomo, Ft. Wayne, South Bend, you need to do this race!
