Swim
Comments: Got pulled when I was about 700 yards from finish to swim to shore. Lightning. I just doubled the first lap. Fair enough since I was negative splitting with more open water and better navigating on second loop. What would you do differently?: Nothing. It was the one thing I kinda made my goal on, to swim in 1:30. Weather is the weather. Felt fine Transition 1
Comments: T1 negated for the weather fiasco and long walk back to transition. I totally made this time up and included in my "unofficial" time above. Bike
Comments: a bit of a fiasco. The course is beautiful. I can blame the crazy weather for some but the fact is that I didn't train for the distance. People talk about the hills, but they are just like home. Had to go crazy slow down the descents in the storm, but even when it dried up, i was a chicken on the long downhills. What would you do differently?: Bring rain gear. Might have had a touch of hypothermia given the way I was starting to get drowsy on loop 2. Transition 2
Run
Comments: went half decent for 8 miles or so and then totally bonked. Probably walked half of the run. What would you do differently?: Don't show up to a race thinking I can just knock it out without putting in the long runs in training. Post race
Warm down: Grabbed my shit and stumbled to the car to hit the camp site. I would have liked to stay to see Paul from Bikeway finish, but I was spent and freezing. My dry clothes bag had gotten waterlogged throughout the day too. What limited your ability to perform faster: Official time was 13:52 but that was BS as it didn't count half the swim and T1. Corrected for above. I got the race results that I trained for. No biggie. Time to start training to get faster at shorter distances. Oh, and my attitude. I was pretty grumpy for someone who was getting to do an IM race, but at least I hid it from the spectators and athletes. Managed to smile and ham it up, but I just wanted to get through. Event comments: This is a fantastic race with great scenery and more energetic volunteers than you can shake a powerbar at. If long course if for you, I highly recommend it. And having a shitty personal day, I got to race with some people who were really giving it their all to be an Ironman. Very inspirational. Last updated: 2013-10-31 12:00 AM
