Pre-race routine:

This being my first triathlon I woke up every hour and finally got out of bed @ 4:45, put the bike on the car and started down to PTC. Had a Clif Bar and 16 oz., H20 on the ride down. Checked in, grabbed the goody bag, got body marked and went to set up my transition area. I was really nervous, it being my first triathlon...
Event warmup:

People watching and wondering if I had trained enough to finish...talked to a few friends from work and lined up in my swim wave.
Swim
  • 12m 49s
  • 528 yards
  • 02m 26s / 100 yards
Comments:

Only my second open water swim..I had come down one time before and swam on the Wed. night practice. Almost within 2 minutes my HR was through the roof, not a panic, I think just the excitement of what was happening, overcoming a fear and just the environment. I swam directly to the kayak, not on purpose, just b/c you are supposed to mess up your first time and I didn't want to be the person who did everything right and everyone make fun of me..Rest of the swim wasn't to bad, I sighted better and relaxed. Swim time was not too bad for a first timer and I was excited to get the swim over and done.
What would you do differently?:

Practice OWS some more and learn to control the breathing and siting, I could use some coaching on technique.
Transition 1
  • 02m 20s
Comments:

HR was high and I was racked at the bike exit, so I had a good run down to the other end and tried to control my breathing. For the first time I think I cursed at a pair of socks...
What would you do differently?:

I think I did well for the first time transition..practice will take a few seconds off and maybe no socks?
Bike
  • 44m 48s
  • 13.2 miles
  • 17.68 mile/hr
Comments:

I have not spent a lot of time on the bike and it shows...I have been doing classes inside, b/c I am not too fond of solo riding. My gear changing is poor and I made some bad choices on the hills. Passed a few people and got passed by more...kinda frustrating, but I have no one to blame except the engine! I did enjoy the bike leg, but started to loose pace around mile 11..
What would you do differently?:

Get out and ride more, practice gear changing and get more comforatble on the bike, learn how to get in the aero eventually.
Transition 2
  • 01m 12s
Comments:

I think I did well on this one..I had to run to the opposite end to exit on this one.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 28m 38s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 13s  min/mile
Comments:

I couldn't get my HR to come down where I felt comforatble on the run. Legs felt fine, just conditioning I guess and I need to learn how to calm my breathing. Everyone was encouraging out there. Had a funny moment on the bridge towards the finish. A couple of guys sitting on the bridge where yelling at me to get my money's worth and pass someone...so I passed a guy with a brace on his knee...because I had nothing left, they started to boo me and tell me anyone could chalk down a guy with a brace..I started laughing out loud. I hope that person is not on the the site...but if you are I know you were running at a 6:00 min/mile pace or faster!!
What would you do differently?:

Just practice breathing and maybe look at doing some track work to build up speed. Try and calm down.
Post race
Warm down:

Had a couple of waters and a Gatorade..I don't know if they didn't dilute the Gatorade..it was way too sweet.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I need to train more in all three disciplines...I will look to get some coahing in the off season and learn technique. This race was done just on feel.

Event comments:

I am proud that I have completed my first Triathlon and will sign up for more. I really enjoyed the race and the environment, so many friendly people. I am sometimes too critical on things I do, so I will always look for ways to improve, but I made myself enjoy what I had accomplished and will remember this for years and years. Thanks to everyone who posts on here..I hardly post, but I read a lot and like to learn from your experinces.
